Tempest Car Hire

Like many others, I had a terrible experience with Tempest
Like many others, I had a terrible experience with Tempest. First off, they charge R500 more for an upgrade done in-person than a new booking online would cost. Secondly, the staff at Bloemfontein Airport where I returned the car had no interest doing a final inspection, and advised me it's not necessary, only to email me a week later about damage on the car and that I needed to fill in an "Incident form", even though nothing happened to the car! A week later and they are still busy with an "investigation" (which I would not have known about if I didn't follow up, and that could only take a maximum of 2 minutes to look at photos), and keeping my deposit money. This really reeks of *****ulent behavior and I suspect they are taking chances like this all the time.

Discovery Insure

Vitality Drive Exploitation
There are multiple "bugs" in the insure drive app. I say "bug" in quotation marks because it's a convenient way for Discovery to benefit from it. 1) The app has a bug in persisting any changes made to a trip. For example, when changing the trip type to passenger. We are being deducted a lot of points because of this. I regularly drive my wife's car when she is in the car as the passenger, then the app picks up cellphone usage from her phone. We have tried changing the trip type on her phone (android) and my phone (iphone) with no impact. I have logged it as a bug but received a response that did not fix the issue. As this has financial impact, I consider it a serious issue. 2) The "query" screen gives an "Internal server error" when attempting to submit a query. Again a convenient way for Discovery to dodge any complaints. Maybe this is a legitimate error, maybe not. But together with issue 1) I smell serious *****ulent behaviour.

Discovery Bank

Not a secure bank
Phone and card were stolen and they managed to steal funds. Here's the catch, when they tried my Investec card, Investec immediately flagged the transaction as fraudulent and it didn't go through. Discovery bank allowed THREE of their money-withdrawing transactions to go through (WITHOUT my pin) and the fraud department now says they cannot reverse or insure my funds because it was a "secure" transaction. Laughable.
