Lack of Academic and Administrative Support for Postgraduate Students
I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding what I perceive as a serious lack of academic and administrative support for postgraduate students at North-West University. At present, I am experiencing multiple unresolved issues that have caused significant frustration and anxiety, despite repeated attempts to seek assistance through official channels. Firstly, my academic record is incorrect. One completed module does not appear on my academic record at all. In addition, another module reflects an average of 54 percent, despite the fact that I achieved above 80 percent for every assignment as well as for the final examination. This creates the impression that I am barely passing my studies, when in reality I am working extremely hard and performing well academically. I have repeatedly requested clarification and correction, but to date I have received no response. Secondly, I am unable to register for the new academic year. All official communication from the university indicated that registration would open on 26 January and close on 27 January. However, when I attempt to register, the system displays “Registration closed.” I have no holds on my account, and my minimum payable fees have already been settled in full. Despite this, I am completely blocked from registering, with no explanation or assistance provided. In an attempt to resolve these matters, I have placed 23 phone calls to various contact numbers listed by the university. None of these calls have been answered. This does not include additional numbers listed on the website that are either invalid or do not exist. Emails sent to the relevant departments have also gone unanswered, making email communication equally ineffective. At this stage, it feels as though postgraduate students are being neglected and left without support. I am making every effort to comply with academic and administrative requirements, yet I am unable to progress due to issues entirely outside of my control. This experience has led me to question whether my time and effort are being respected by the institution. I am requesting urgent assistance, clear communication, and prompt resolution of these matters. I believe it is reasonable to expect accurate academic records, functional registration systems, and accessible communication channels, especially for postgraduate students who are balancing significant academic and personal commitments. I trust that this complaint will be taken seriously and that the necessary steps will be taken to address these issues as a matter of urgency.
