Re: ML1910 Moving of Property Contents from Edenvale, Gauteng to Parklands, Western Cape To Whom It May Concern It is with great sadness that I write this letter / report today. I had originally engaged with Mint Logistics (Collin) for a quotation for moving my household contents from Edenvale, Gauteng to Parklands, Western Cape. I was asked to complete an inventory list depicting all items to be moved. I completed this list and submitted it through to Mint Logistics on 14 October 2023. I was then provided with a quote for R20,800 for a 7-ton dedicated, closed truck including 3-4 general workers to load and offload the truck, bubble wrapping of furniture items and insurance cover of R250,000. I stipulated that the truck would need to collect from Edenvale on 31 October and deliver directly to Parklands on 01 November 2023. I proceeded to pay the deposit of 20% and then confirmed on numerous occasions with numerous people that the truck would be at the collection point at 09h00 on 31 October and that they would definitely deliver to Parklands on 01 November 2023. So on Tuesday, 31 October 2023, Mint Logistics arrived 2-hours late to the collection point and only departed at 14h30. They had sent a 10-ton truck due to mechanical failures on the 7-ton truck and then took our possessions to some storage location. Everything was offloaded and held there for a further day and a half due to bad weather. I was then told by Collin that everything was loaded into a 7-ton truck but that our stuff didn’t “fit”. He then instructed the loaders to load all items into an 8-ton truck but that we will incur further costs for this change. Collin told us that there were numerous items collected that weren’t on our original inventory list. When I enquired as to the items listed, I stated that we did not have a single bed, camping tents, shoe rack, mannequin, 19x storage crates, kist, inverter, x3 briefcases, etc. Collin merely said that it was ours. We were then told that the truck would leave at 21h30 on Thursday, 2 November 2023 (already a day late) – I was informed by George (the Driver) that they had only left at midnight. I had then asked both George and Collin for a live location pin for the trucks ware bouts, neither comp**** / shared this request. We were then informed on Saturday, 4 November (4 days late) at 08h26 that the truck had encountered a “minor breakdown’ in Bloemfontein but that it had been resolved and they were going to leave shortly. Again I had asked for a live location pin and only received it on Saturday, 4 November at 09h02 from Pablo the General Worker. Pablo then kept in contact with us to let us know how they were travelling. The truck arrived on Sunday, 5 November at 01h00. They asked if they could offload in the morning as they were tired. On Sunday morning we were then informed that we need to make our agreed payment of R 16, 640 as well as the additional R 3,500 for the use of the 8-ton truck BEFORE offloading. I vehemently opposed this as because of the loading and offloading numerous times at some unknown location, I wanted to view all contents of the truck for damages and missing items. As well as reviewing the “extras” that were too much to fit on a 7-ton truck. We were then threatened and bul**** into making said payments else our possessions would be taken to some storage facility. This was Mint Logistics holding us at ransom, how are we to be sure that all our possessions would be accounted for or if they were damaged! So we comp**** and made said payments. The Driver and General Workers then proceeded to offload. To our utter horror, most of our furniture was in ruins, covered in mud and boot prints. On the submitted inventory list we had listed the following items that were not collected as we had done away with them prior to the 31st October: • Deepfreezer • Computer • Carpet / Rug • Lawn Mower • X2 ******* bins • Welding Machine • Wheelbarrow • Heater – I had listed 4 but we only had x3 paraffin heaters not the big gas heaters. • Mirror – I had listed 5 but we only had 3 collected. So these eliminated items would save on a lot of space in the originally agreed 7-ton truck. Also, we had listed 51 boxes (comprising cardboard boxes, plastic boxes and suitcases), yet there were only 49 – again this should have saved space. Items Missing: • Bookshelf • Dressing chair cushion • X3 couch cushions • Battery Charger • Jack • Trestles x2 • X5 Oasis water bottles • 9ct Yellow Gold Ring with three small diamonds (Approx. weight 0.25ct Illusion Set) valued at R 7,950. The valuation certificate is also gone with it. • UPS RCT 2000VAS • X15 USB Flashdrives • X5 Memory cards Damaged Items: • Chest of drawers – missing / broken handles and missing embellishments. • Coffee Table – Broken undercarriage. • Server – Missing Key for cupboard. • Couch – The upholstery is ruined and the backboard is broken (you can see boot marks where is was stood / walked on). • Tool cupboard – back wheel broken off and supported with a half brick. NOTE: All the furniture was covered in mud and foot / boot prints. Then we discovered that the “additional” items we were held ransom for R 3,500 were not even on the truck. And to compound matters even more, we were told we would have a dedicated truck – no sharing. Yet, the 8-ton truck was only half filled with our possessions and the remaining half of the truck was taken up by three (3) other peoples goods. So therefore, we should only be liable for the costs of a 4-ton truck. *Other people’s goods that took up half of the truck. *Other people’s goods that took up half of the truck. We want an immediate refund on the money we paid Mint Logistics, the additional R 3,500 and a reduced rate for paying for a 7-ton truck and only getting 4-tons worth. Secondly, I want to claim for the damages and missing items from the R 250,000 insurance cover. I have asked Collin on numerous occasions for the insurance claim details, and he has simply ignored me. So kindly supply this information soonest, as I have included my insurance company hereto this communication.
Called back to fix their Inverter installation and they charged for this. They change their invoice to suit what they want. Would not recommend them.
