Poor service and lack of assistance with my UIF claim despite multiple calls, emails, and a visit to the Roodepoort Labour Centre where staff were unhelpful and unprofessional.
My life partner passed away on 12 September 2023. We lived together for over 6 years, and we were financially dependent on each other. Despite submitting all the required documents (last sent in January 2025), Sanlam has still not finalised the death benefit claim—nearly 2 years later. I’ve sent multiple emails with no response and even visited the Sanlam branch with one of the mothers of the deceased’s two children. We received no help. We were told Sanlam is still waiting on documents from the deceased’s father, who is being treated as the 100% beneficiary, even though he was never financially dependent, but only because the employer (the company where both my partner and his father worked together) is nominating the father as the full beneficiary. This is deeply unfair. The two children have also received nothing, and Sanlam has failed to communicate with us or show any empathy. I also have a policy with Sanlam, but after this experience, I’m seriously considering cancelling it. I would never want my children to go through the same stress and emotional trauma. Sanlam, please show some compassion and resolve this matter. We just want closure.
Thanks Old Mutual, someone from Old Mutual called me, explained the misunderstanding and immediately sent me my policy document.
I app**** for a life policy with old mutual, did the whole process including the debit mandate. For almost a year now I have been debited for a life policy that doesn't exist. I went to old mutual branch on the 20th June, Logged a query and I was told I will get feedback in 10 working days and nothing thus far. 10 days is long past they debited my account again for a policy that doesn't exist. I wonder what would have happened had I passed away ( God forbid) and my family went to claim and be told I had no policy with old mutual while old mutual is debating me for a life policy for the past 12 months.
