I was a member of Sizwe Hosmed for 20-years. The last 5-years were tricky, with random increases and bad communication. When they went into curatorship in 2025, I decided to go on a new medical aid. This being said, Sizwe Hosmed still owes me money as I had to pay out of my pocket, as no medical practice will do business otherwise if you belong to Sizwe Hosmed. Getting this money out of them is the problem. Emails get ignored, and promises are made. It has been 4-months without getting my money back. I am not sure where to turn to anymore, as I have exhausted all the avenues I could.
The school started yesterday. The bus never collected the kids in 14th avenue, Walmer @14h15 that travels back to Summerstrand. Trying to get to the bottom of this, sending messages and making phone calls that does not get returned, I still have no explanation or answer if the bus will be there today?
My son went to Medicross Cape Road, Port Elizabeth in February 2024. This was for a bite-bit as he grinds his teeth when he is sleeping. Firstly, I was told that the dentist will do a recommendation to the medical aid as a bite-bit is seen as non-medical. The recommendation letter was done by the dentist and handled by reception. At no stage was I ever informed that this was rejected by the medical aid. Three months later, on the 7th of June I get a sms to declare that I have an outstanding account of 90-days. Not once did I receive a phone call or an invoice for this account. Seems like all medical places just do the same thing, the accounts department won't inform you, yet they will threaten you after a period of not paying said account that you had no idea about. It is really time that admin/accounts people in these positions start working with the clients and build a positive relationship rather than creating a monster. Benedetta
I have been a member of Hosmed Medical Aid since 2005. When they amalgamated with Sizwe, it has only been with problems. I have been suspended numerous times without any communication. I have been suspended last week again. For not submitting an affidavit as proof of my daughter still living with us. No need to say that NO mention or pre-messages for this suspension was given. Sizwe Hosmed says they have send notices...which I NEVER received. So strange that you would pay every month and that you have been on a medical aid for so long and would ignore messages of NO payment? I have to do their admin for them most of the time. Last year with my daughter's operation I had to go back to the hospital and sort the payments they were NOT doing, my time, my petrol, my communication. I am appalled to say the least that this medical aid has gone to shambles in the last 2-years. It is just another South African thing going down the drain because people don't work when they have a work.
To give them a ONE-Star is unfortunate, as you have to give that rating to put your review here. From me, you will get no stars...I would like to know what is happening in your department, who is working, who is getting paid for napping and lunching while you are keeping me out of my work! More than a year later I receive an account...you say it is a system error on your side? For more than a year? Goodness people of SA! Then you hand me over, of course! An account my medical should have paid is now being paid by me...monthly...YET...wait for it...you do not reconcile, the amount outstanding stays the same and you want to blacklist me...No matter how many times one emails you, nothing gets done, phone calls, nothing gets done! Please fire the people that are useless and employ people that would work! Get your **** together, I see everyone has the same issue as me and I have spoken to other people too with the same scenario. And do not dare to send me that pathetic reply you send to everyone! FIX THIS ACCOUNT!!!!!!!!
