I deliberately waited 24 hours before posting this review, allowing time to cool off. As a business owner myself, I understand the impact a bad review can have. However, after the appalling experience my wife and I had at Blowfish last night (Friday, 21 February 2025), I feel compelled to warn others. My wife has a severe allergy to chili, and since she had forgotten her emergency medication at home, we made it explicitly clear to our waitress. We even insisted that she write it down and confirm with the chef. Yet, to our shock, my wife's starter contained chili. Realizing the potential danger, I immediately called the waitress over, explaining that we might need to rush home or even to Blaauwberg Netcare. She reassured us that we wouldn’t need to pay since my wife had not even taken a bite—only a single sip of her Mojito. However, when the manager arrived, he presented us with the full bill, including the mains we hadn’t even received! After some discussion, he reluctantly reduced it to my starter, my alcohol-free beer, and two bottles of water—still with zero apology and an attitude that suggested we were the ones inconveniencing him. The lack of professionalism was staggering. The waitress’s inappropriate comments—questioning why I drink alcohol-free beer and pointing out that another guest had a similar shirt to mine—were bizarre. When I inquired about house specials, she simply stated that "everything is full price," completely misunderstanding my question. The entire experience was nothing short of awful—untrained staff, poor management, and a general lack of care for customer well-being. Most concerning is that, 24 hours later, there has been no follow-up call to check if my wife is okay, despite the restaurant having my contact details from the booking. No need to call now—I don’t want anything from you. One thing is for sure: we will never be back.
I chose 2 track pants, 2 tshirts, and a sweat-shirt, then stood at till for 5 min, when asked if I should come back later I was helped. I was told unless I gave my ID and cell number I would not qualify for the discount. I asked the person behind the counter to show me where it said that and low and behold in very tiny print, it said at the bottom of a poster in very tiny writing you only get the discount if you a club card member. The staff got so agresive with me I had to basically exit the store swiftly, to avoid confrontation. They were so smug that they could point out the fine print, not even realising they had lost a customer. Every person I speak to will hear this story and I will never go back. I don't shop at stores that ask for my ID number sorry.
