Discovery insure was informed in September 2025 that I would be taking out insurance from another company. I was emailed that they received it and has sent it to their client retention department. I took out the new insurance and up to January 2026 Discovery kept trying to claim premiums from my account, costing me bank charges for debit orders not provided for. I have contacted Discovery about 3 times to get them to stop putting through the debit order but they have not come back to me. In February they tried another tactic by putting through the debit order on the 10th of February and it went through. I later reversed it but it cost me more than R100 in time lost at work and bank fees for reversing the debit order. Today (19 March 2026) I went onto my credit profile only to see that Discovery is still on my profile and that I still owe them a premium. To every body out there that thinks Discovery insurance is good, be careful, they do not do what they have to do when you decide not to use them anymore.
About 18 months ago I stopped using insurance suggested by MFC as they wanted to charge my R7500 for doing a claim of a car running into me from behind. I cancelled my insurance with King Price and was insured from then until today by Discovery. About a year ago, MFC started asking me for proof of insurance. I sent them my contract, my proof of payments and expected it to be accepted. Almost a month or 2 later they contacted me and said that my proof of payments and the physical contract were not good enough and my insurance had to send them a letter stating that I was insured with them. I asked my insurance for a letter and expect that it was done, as I did not hear from MFC or Nedbank again for about a month. When I checked my credit profile, I saw that I have had 4 hard searches on my profile. One of the searchers was MFC/ Nedbank. On my profile it clearly states that the only insurance I have is Discovery, confirming that I am up to date and that I have not gotten other or additional insurance. They then put through a payment request whereby I noticed they had added an additional R1000 for which i had not authorized them. I have every month had to have the payment reversed and do the correct payment myself. What they do every month is just increase my outstanding balance by R1000, add the additional interest and I do not know whether they add additional bank costs as well. After I have contacted them I was told that they will insure my vehicle. Because I am not insured by them or their affiliates, they are penalizing me as if I am not insured. I have paid additional bank fees on my own bank account to the tune of about R100 per month to have the amounts reversed. They are *****ulently adding costs and do not care that they are wrong, as they think that nobody will do anything about it. I have been trying to get them to send me a statement for the past 3 months, but they have completely stopped sending me a statement. It is my contention that they don't want to send me a statement as I will be able to prove that they are incorrectly adding money to my account, which means that they are *****ulently adding additional interest as well. Their legal department sent me a notice that I am in arrears to the tune of R9000. I explained to them what the problem was and requested a statement. They have not even bothered to reply. I am at my wits' end as to what to do next. Please assist . My ID number is 620507 5148 089. Thank you.
