I recently had a disappointing experience with OLD MUTUAL. I submitted a question on 22 May 2025 and didn't receive a response until 3 months later with all my questions still unanswered. The lack of timely communication and poor service has been frustrating. I'm sharing my experience to inform others and hope OLD MUTUAL takes steps to improve their customer service. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
No surprise the negative reviews exceed positive reviews by far!!! TOP CARPETS /CARPET BOYS replaced a laminated wood staircase in Nov 2022 after the previous staircase had water damage, before the unfortunate damage the staircase was still in mint condition. Eighteen months later the matching stair nosing started to bounce up and down when stepped on and eventually some fell off. As this was an insurance claim I started to negotiate with my insurance broker in May 2024. They were brushed off by TOP CARPETS that they suggested aluminum stair nosing but I preferred the matching stair nosing and that I was told there is only a 12 month warranty on labor. Both are blatant lies. The same lies were told to Santam as well. Nobody could provide any evidence on both the above mentioned matters. I still prefer the matching stair nosing, unfortunately no option on this platform to show that the stair nosing was stuck on with three dots of adhesive. Furthermore a crack appeared on the one stair where a credit card fits in. A Michael guy from Top Carpets phoned me and told me another story. Apparently the stair nosing came loose due to heavy traffic and incorrect cleaning. With one occupant on the property who is most of the time at work??? Just like the previous staircase this one is wiped down with a damp cloth once a week. SANTAM was also told they inspected the installation after my complaint, another BLATANT LIE, nobody came out to inspect the sub standard installation. Unfortunately I can not recommend TOP CARPETS as they refuse to take responsibility for sub standard installation and blame the client.
Santa's service provider Carpet Boys replaced a laminated wood staircase in November 2022. In less than 18 months the "noses" on the stairs started to come loose and eventually started to fall off. The previous stairs were still in mint condition after more than 12 years untill the unfortunate water damage. I tried to negotiate through my broker but didn't get any positive results. In August I send a complaint with photo's to SANTAM. SANTAM sent me a case ref Nr CAS9554218-L4W7N6 and undertook to resolve the problem in three (3) working days. Now almost months later and another 2 emails of which Santam didn't even acknowledge receipt of correspondence the problem gets worse by the day. I feel SANTAM left me at the mercy of their service provider who refuse to take any responsibility for a sub standard installation.
