After my last review I received an email from Standard Bank stating that they’ll be attending to my matter. I haven’t received an update from the investigating officer with regards to my ***** case, I only received a call from their call centre consultant on Friday saying that she’ll escalate the matter (that’s what they’ve been doing since I opened the ***** case). She said that according to their system they investigated the matter and managed to locate and closed the account where my funds were sent to, but I was not notified about this. She said that they froze my “whole profile” because they think that I’m implicated in these *****ulent activities. How does one goes from being a victim to being a suspect? I’m still receiving collections calls regarding my credit card (I don’t know how they expect me to pay it coz it’s also frozen), my debit orders bounced again and i still don’t have access to my savings. Capitec bank said they contacted Standard Bank numerous times with no luck and they’ve closed their investigation and I have to repay the money because “my pin was compromised” which means that I know the perpetrators. Capitec Bank also found 2 selfies on their app which were taken @ 4:38am and 4:45am on the 27th of October (before the *****ulent transactions), which further confirms that I’m a victim but they still concluded that I’m responsible for the repayments of the money that was ****** from my credit card and access facility, they are not saying anything about the money that I also lost in these *****ulent transactions. My banking app and card are still suspended. How does capitec bank concludes the matter without getting feedback from Standard Bank and other external banks which received the money?
On the 27th of October (morning) I called Standard Bank to block my card after my phone was ****** only to find out that there were *****ulent transactions on my account which they then froze my profile. I submitted an affidavit from the SAPS with a case number as per their request. Since then I haven’t received an update from their ***** department, I only receive automated messages saying that they are still busy with the investigation. They first said that it’ll take 7 working days will later changed to 14 working days to now. All my debit orders (for the end of October) bounced. They denied me access to my Access save account as I needed money to pay rent (the access account is not affected by the *****ulent transactions). I don’t know how many times I went to the branch and also called their ***** Department with no assistance. Now I’m receiving collections calls from their collections department with regards to my credit card which I couldn’t pay because they suspended my profile, I’ve never missed a payment before. How am I going to pay for my credit card while it’s also suspended? With what money because they are denying me access to the money that I’ve saved with them? Now we’re approaching the end of November and I still don’t have access to my account which means my debit orders are going to bounce again (including my life and funeral covers). I don’t know where to seek assistance now, I’m so frustrated. It was a struggle for me to get my bank statement to submit to the SAPS as evidence, I had to go to the branch and call the ***** department several times for approval, isn’t the credit card also part of my profile? If they can hand over my credit card why can’t they give me access to my access save account coz I need my money? I went to the branch on Friday to report the collection calls and they said they’ve forwarded the matter to the relevant department but I’m still receiving these calls even now. Why am I not receiving an update about the R37 000 that was transferred from my account?
On the 26th of October I attended an event at THE REEF HOTEL JOHANNESBURG where my phone was snatched from my hands by a guy who was also inside the hotel and ran into a car which was waiting for him outside the hotel. This whole thing resulted in the perpetrators accessing my banking apps and took R56 000. I was at the entrance (about to leave) when the incident happened. At that time there was no security or assistant because I screamed and no one came. I went bank to the hotel on the 27th after opening a ******** case with the SAPS. The assistant was rude and didn’t wanna listen (I took a video), she first said the head of security is not there and there are also no cameras at the hotel entrance which we later found out that she was lying, the head of security was there and there were cameras. All the other cctv footage’s were playing but they said the one which shows the incident happening is not playing, which was very surprising and questionable. The cctv footage’s showed the perpetrator going in and out of the hotel comfortably. It even showed the perpetrator getting into their escape car. One of the staff members said she saw the perpetrator looking suspicious with fresh scars and bruises in his phone the whole night and she told the other guests to take care of their personal belongings. Why not escort him if he looks like a danger to your other guests? What happened to the “right of admission is reserved”? Why host an event without enough security? The staff member further mentioned other cellphone incidents that happened “inside” the hotel, which means that their guests are not safe. The head of security said he’ll take the footage to their IT SPECIALIST which until today I haven’t heard from them and it’s more than 2 weeks now. This whole thing looks like an inside job judging by the way the perpetrator is walking so freely and comfortable inside the hotel and how there was no security at the desk when the incident happened.
On the 27th of October (morning) I called Capitec bank after my phone was ****** at THE REEF HOTEL IN JOHANNESBURG to block my account, only to find out that R56 000 was already taken from my account which they then opened a ***** case to be investigated. I called Standard Bank which also confirmed that there were *****ulent transactions which were made and also opened a ***** case. I also went to the SAPS the same day to open a ******** case which until today I haven’t heard anything from them, they refused to accompany me to the hotel to check the cctv footage or location where my phone was because I could still track it, I had to do all of that on my own (there’s a cctv footage at the hotel which shows the perpetrator going in and out of the hotel and their escape car, the perpetrator was inside the hotel and there was no security or anyone at the desk when the incident happened because I screamed after they snatched my phone but no one came to my rescue, one of the hotel workers said that she saw the perpetrator looking suspicious he had bruises and fresh scars and told other people who were attending the same event to take care of their personal belongings. What happened to “right of admission reserved”?, why didn’t they escort the suspect? And why host an event without enough security in place?). I went to capitec and Standard Bank on the 28th and they confirmed that both accounts were blocked and under investigation and I’ll receive further communication from their ***** departments (please note that I submitted an affidavit from the SAPS as per their request). Capitec Bank highlighted that since some of the funds were taken from my credit card and access facility I will be responsible for the repayments should they fail to recover my funds. To my surprise Instalments were already calculated and added to be paid by the 31st of October (I didn’t understand how because the account was blocked including my card and online transactions suspended) I received an sms from Capitec bank on the 1st of November stating that they couldn’t recover my funds. I went to Capitec Bank on the 8th of november for a follow up after receiving a call from a rude capitec Bank collection’s consultant explaining that my accounts are overdue. I was surprised when she explained that my account is now open and there was no note indicating that the account is under *****ulent investigation. At the branch they confirmed that the account is still under investigation but I need to make payments (how can I pay for something that’s under investigation? How can I pay for something that I did not use? And where am I supposed to get the money coz I also lost my money? And why was I not notified that the account is now open?) The consultant offered to issue a new card which I declined. I have a savings account with Standard Bank which they are denying me access to(because I needed money to pay rent and buy food). On the 11th of November I received a call from Capitec’s collections department again which I then asked to be transferred to their ***** department, the consultant that I spoke to at their ***** department didn’t wanna listen to me, “he said that they’ve closed their investigation on the 1st of November and they concluded that the transactions were made with my bank pink which means that it’s someone that I know and Capitec Bank is not accountable for such” How can they conclude on assumptions? He then tried to ask me questions about who am I staying with?….weren’t they supposed to do that before closing the investigation? Other external banks are still investigating the matter but capitec which is my primary bank has already closed the investigation and concluded that I must pay back the money(some funds were transferred to Absa and African bank). I also lost my money but capitec bank is only focusing on the money that was taken from my credit card and access facility, the investigation was closed within a week before they could receive a feedback from other banks involved. How can capitec authorise such amounts because I’ve never done such transactions in my accounts? More than 15 transactions were made in one morning from my capitec bank account, there were 5 R1000 vouchers bought, 2 R1000 prepaid airtime bought, R40 000, R2600, R2000 deposits and other transactions made and Capitec Bank authorised them.
