We used Rawson for two years. The first time was okay, with them charging us an arm and a leg for "tightening a bathroom rail". The second time, they withheld more of the deposit then they are entitled to by law. The problem started when we did not renew our lease and decided to go with another agency for our rental. We were using the Rawson Properties that cater to the Douglasdale, Sunninghill and Rivonia side. We were TOLD that they would be witholding R2500 for utilities, even though we had paid a deposit for utilities (which was less than the amount that was being withheld). When we questioned this, they gave us some generic answer, which negated any and all accountability, even though we advised them that what they were doing was ******* (to withhold more than what was paid as a deposit). They then decided to invoice us for utilities for an amount that was almost 1/3 more than our monthly consumption - obviously a ploy to try and justify the unilateral and greedy decision to withhold more than they were entitled to hold in the first place. Our agent (Kerry and Ruth), after being done with us, did not bother to explain the reasoning or advise on what their policy was (even if it was against the signed lease agreement). The lady who handles the finance (Lindelwa), was evasive and refused to respond to emails or return messages that we left for her. We absolutely regret ever using Rawson's services for finding property. It may not be all areas, but the one we dealt with was a nightmare. All they care about is the bottom-line and have no regard for due process or doing what they ought to do in line with the agreements signed. If you can avoid it, do not use them as your agents when renting. You will receive a fraction of your deposit back and they do it without any shame!
If I could give them no starts, I would! I wish I read the reviews before bothering with them. Dylan Coffen is honestly the WORST agent I have ever come across. I should have noticed the red flags from the time we saw his advert on Property24, with a listing in Kyalami. I tried to reach him for two days, to no avail. I sent WhatsApp messages and tried calling. He did not bother to respond to me or call me back. When we eventually got through to him, he spoke to us with so much disregard, as if he was doing us a favour by taking our call or entertaining our enquiry to view the apartment. He told us that we had to send an email with all of our documents and get approved before we could view. We submitted all documents and sent the application on the same day. I had to send a follow up email, as he had gone radio silent on me. After following up, he sent a one line email saying that due to "affordability" my application would not be considered. Mind you, affordability is not an issue, had he only taken the time to look at my payslips, bank statements and how much I currently pay for rent.
