Went for supper a few weeks ago at Golden Horse, PMB, and we were shocked by how this place has deteriorated in both food quality and service. The waitresses are disinterested and slow….we waited ages for our drinks and food. We were left unattended and many times we saw the staff hanging around talking amongst themselves rather than coming to our table. The food was a huge disappointment as the burger I ordered was pretty much a plated McDonalds meal. The burger was also the wrong meat that I had ordered, but since it came so late, I let it go. **The big shocker was our bill. The waitress graciously reminded us about using our Tsogo Sun card for a 10% discount, and interestingly, she kept the slip, to which we added a 10% (undeserved) tip. Once home, we realised that the Member discount was NOT credited to us, which makes her tip DOUBLE the amount at the end of the day. This was extremely crafty, and appears as a clever way to get a 20% tip. When we returned to question this the next day, we were told nothing can be done and the manager had left. We were promised he’d contact us, and to this day we have not heard from him. I do not recommend this place.
For a supposed VIP experience, the place at the Pavillion is not worth a R200 ticket. Although the recliners are fine, the place smelled faintly like a used toilet, the aircon is set to freezing in Winter, and you can hear sounds from the movie next door. Also… - Went to the 11 o’clock show - the first show of the day. The system was offline and the staff were offline as well, offering a whole lot of disinterest and apathy. Thanks to some other moviegoers, we ended up getting the tickets using the phones. - All forgiven, we went to the “VIP” waiting area to get some overpriced snacks and were given literally the last s****ings of popcorn from the bottom of the barrel. No smell of popcorn, no fresh refill for the morning, just given the stale remains from clearly the night before (It came to my attention later that the popcorn is made in advance somewhere and packed in large plastic bags, then refilled…maybe once a day? Who knows). - We asked to go in at 10h45 and were told that they were cleaning. - At 10h50 someone asked again and was told they were still cleaning. A worker eventually went into the cinema, came out with dirty dishes. - At 11, we heard the previews playing and I asked to go in. Finally, the cleaner came out and we could go into the cinema. Note that this is the FIRST show of the day….the place hadn’t been cleaned since the night before?? Really disappointing, shocking customer service and a total rip-off for something that should be a special treat. A waste of a good movie, too.
