I collected the 'Group E' rental vehicle from the Randburg branch and was ecstatic that it was a VW Kombi. Upon inspection of the vehicle with the Tempest representative, I immediately noticed both front tyres with minimal tread whereas the Tempest rep was more worried about the nicks and scratches on the vehicle and the recording thereof. After the inspection was complete, a representative from the Europcar counter popped over to the car and stated that the tyres were definitely in need of changing. It was then suggested that I drive the Kombi down to Durban (my destination) and get the vehicle swapped upon my arrival that side. I was unhappy with that suggestion as I would need to travel ****m's with my family on bald tyres in hopes that we would reach Durban without any issues. I was then advised to take the Kombi to Fourways Crossing where their repairs department would check if the tyres could be changed. I ended up taking the vehicle through to Fourways Crossing and upon arrival, the technician immediately indicated the front tyres required replacement. Two hours later the Kombi had 3 new tyres (the technician advised the left rear tyre was also on minimal tread) with no wheel alignment being done. I made my way home after what should have been a 30 minute exercise but ended up being close on 4 hours (all to ‘collect’ a rental car). The staff are so fixated on looking for the tiniest scratch and nick on the paintwork that they overlook the really important aspects of the vehicle such as tyre condition and alignment. At no stage was I offered a replacement vehicle in the Jhb vicinity or that the vehicle would have the tyres changed and dropped off at my house later that evening. In fact the staff did not seem concerned that the VW Kombi had bald tyres and had no problem in getting me to run around getting the vehicle back to road worthy condition.
Shox and Suspension Centre changed my shocks on a Golf 5 Gti and in the process damaged the torque sensor on the steering rack which affects all the steering safety features and is not separately replaceable. Bottom line is they refused to pay or contribute to get this problem resolved which cost me an additional R16K to sort. The owner, Shaune Fryer, was only willing to replace the steering rack with a 2nd hand unit he acquired from a Golf that was written off which I declined - he was not willing to contribute so that I could get the job done properly at VW, even after I advised that I was willing to pay in the difference. This company has zero accountability for its workmanship and actions so stay away and use one of the many other shops in Randburg. Appalling service and attitude by the owner.
