In 2018, after finishing building my house, I took out Building insurance with Unity Insurance. I have never claimed ever since. On Friday, 5 January 2024 around 17:00, a Flash Flood struck our suburb and affected some properties including tree branches. My property was not spared. The amount of rain that fell, caused my boundary wall to collapse. This wall is at the back of my property, where behind it is an open park. Behind this wall, some vagrants are living there. Numerous attempts by area security to remove them became fruitless. Furthermore, in October 2023, I had two attempt break-ins, where they cut my electric fence, but fortunately, my alarm and beams were working well. So you can imagine the trauma I felt when this wall came crashing down, eventually opening up to potential walk-ins by these ********s. I made arrangements with the area Armed Response for overnight security. The following morning (Saturday) I called Unity Insurance to log a claim. I was told they could not assist me because Agents only work on weekdays. I asked if there was any emergency assistance they could offer, but the answer remained NOTHING. So I told them I could not wait for Monday, if I can proceed to make arrangements they will reimburse me. They indicated they would make a note of that. To cut a long story short, I spent R65,000 to hire builders and security. Unity sent an assessor on 10 January (7 days later) and rejected my claim on 17 January. I am wondering what is the purpose of having insurance if it cannot assist you in the most dire moment of your life. They lack empathy and humanity. I have escalated this matter to the ombudsman. I had used my school money to pay for this wall. I need this money back. Rather have insurance that will help you out in time of need. Those small R300 premium savings are not worth it. Go for Santam and other established insurance for peace of mind. Unity and their owner Budget Insurance are a Pyramid/ Ponzi Scheme. Rob Peter to pay Paul business model.
I placed my order online on Monday. I got a follow-up phone call immediately thereafter to confirm my order and the possible delivery dates. I received my order on Wednesday, same week. Throughout the process, I was updated of the order status and important information relating to my shipment. Excellent service indeed.
I contracted the services of Camash Investment on 1 April to move my furniture from Johannesburg South to Northern Suburbs (22 Kms). On the day, they arrived 2 hours late with a 4 ton truck instead of the 6 ton truck quoted for. Before they even started to do anything, they complaint about hunger and that I should by them food. It took them 5 hours to squash my furniture in the truck, and my long back dining chairs and gym machine were loaded on the roof of the truck due to no space in the truck. Then arrived at my new place at 7pm. Broke my gym machine and not tell me. Started complaining about being late and that they need to go. Left my Dining table outside because they were too tired and could not fit inside. They finished at 23:00pm. My standing Vase worth R500 is missing and called Carol and her driver to bring it back. Never heard from either of them. Total silent and disregarding my e-mails and calls. I've moved three times and had never experienced such disgusting service. To realize that you pay people to destroy your furniture is disheartening. Use them at your own peril. Very disgusting service.
