We had 2 small dogs that recently passed away, which were each 13 and 14 years old respectively. I truly believe that at least one of these dogs may still be alive today, had we not taken them to the Roodekruin Veterinary Clinic. While the Vet did try to help in both instances, I believe that their approach to treating both of our dogs was completely wrong. The reason for saying this is our first dog was taken to them towards the end of 2021. This dog’s health was not good as she was 14 years old and she was acting strange so we suspected memory loss. The Vet said she was fine but wanted to analyse a tumour at the back of the dog’s tail. They were of the view it was fluid build-up and not a tumour. They took our (frail) dog to their rooms and then proceeded to withdraw fluid from the dog’s tail. They stitched the wound up and bandaged it, but afterwards once we arrived home, bleeding from the tail started to occur (through the bandage) and it progressed severely to the point where we needed to take the dog back to the vet. They then tried to assist, but said unfortunately they cannot stop the bleeding and the dog needs to be put down. My initial thought was why then did they fiddle with an obvious tumour, but nevertheless we proceeded with their recommendation as the dog was suffering. The second dog was also old and suffered what we think may have been a stroke in early January, so we rushed her to this Vet too, as they as they are very close to our home. They then analysed her and kept her for a few days, while also prescribing a lot of medication for the dog when we collected her. At her age, these meds were definitely too strong (in my opinion) but I’m not a Vet. Our dog initially seemed fine but after some days on the medication, she became immobile and was unable to walk and also unable to even defecate. She was still fine after the stroke for a few days and walking, but after we took her to this Vet (a week prior) for treatment, her movement was hindered badly in her back legs. They then said, the dog is old and needs to also be put down. It was really heart-breaking to witness this. I really felt that this Vet was too rough with both our dogs, especially given their fragility and age. Furthermore, it was also a different person that assisted with each of our dogs. Please note that the views expressed above are purely my own, but I certainly would not recommend this Vet.

Last year, I placed a claim with Discovery Insure to have my front passenger door repaired as my car was broken into. Discovery Insure assessed and then arranged for my vehicle to be sent through to Dent Tech (in Strijdom Park) to be repaired. I briefly spoke to the assessor that day and asked if my vehicle will be booked into Renew It, as this is where is went on my previous claim. He replied, no they very busy but that I should not worry as it will be sent to a reputable company to repair (i.e. Dent Tech). The car door was repaired from the what I could initially see and I collected my vehicle from Dent Tech on Friday 13th at 16:30. Before leaving Dent Tech, I was made to sign a document that the door appears fine and works and that they take no responsibility for and damage from hereon. I signed it as I did test and unlock the door at Dent Tech, from the outside with the key and it worked. While driving from Dent Tech to visit my parents, I noticed several of my vehicles warning lights began to flicker, for a short while (3 seconds maximum) but they then stopped. Note, that this has never happened in the 9 years I’ve owned my vehicle. Nevertheless, I managed to drive to my parents place. On my way back home, however, my vehicle cut out just before 14th Avenue where Hendrik Potgieter meets the concrete highway. I immediately called Discovery Emergency Assist to arrange to have my vehicle towed to my parents place. The very next day, on Saturday morning, I called the Discovery claims department who attempted to call Dent Tech, however, they were not working over the weekend. Furthermore the first agent I spoke to (Thabiso) was also very unhelpful and in a rush. I also tried to arrange for another rental car which he would not assist with. From there I arranged for my vehicle to be towed to Williams Hunt in Roodepoort. I was told today (by Williams Hunt) that the battery (which was relatively new is now defective) and the alternator is no longer working. The indicative price for both to be repaired is close to R2500 + R7500 = R10000 Both Discovery Insure and Dent Tech failed to take any responsibility and argued that because my vehicle was relatively old (albeit well looked after) the battery and alternator would have malfunctioned anyway. They kept arguing that they only worked on the passenger door and nothing else. I was very disappointed and having a Masters in engineering only made me only more angry listening to this explanation. And to top it all I noticed recently that the passenger door which they repaired does not unlock from the inside. Probably the most incompetent repair work I have ever seen.
