If there was a zero rating I would give the Meter Man -10!! I have just moved into a 1 room flatlet which is so tiny. The owner purchased and installed a meter man prepaid electricity meter into this flatlet. I paid R400 on my first purchase on this meter and I only received 92 units !!! I was in total shock. I’ve been up and down with Juliana at the meter man on emails. She says that the rate I pay per unit is based on the owners Eskom account which is billed in arrears directly by Eskom (please note the owner does not have a prepaid installed and receives electricity directly from Eskom) So in other words the owner of the plot is responsible for their own electricity and the electric fences and gates however the other tenants staying and paying each their own rent for their flats or houses are paying a higher tariff per unit on their pre-paid electricity boxes based on what the plot owner is responsible to pay for his own usage and that of the electric fencing and gates. We are paying a tariff of R4,30 per unit through meter man on the prepaid electricity meters. According to Juliana there is no block tariff it’s one set tariff according to the owners account and there are increases as well for winter tariffs ?????? I want to know if this is legal and how I should pay this I can’t afford it I’m a single mom and supporting 2 boys my husband passed last year. Juliana at the meter man says there is no cheaper option and this is it !!!
If there was such a rating I would give this place a -10 I sent this email to the Vodacom Mooirivier Mall Potchefstroom store manager - Sirion Strydom who ignores my queries and requests and I urge you to never set foot in this store nor trust these people - they will rip you off and not bat an eye ! I did not receive any response nor feedback from Sirion after I sent this email below to him on the 01 April 2025, when I realized that an ******* debit order had been deducted from my bank account. He acknowledged that it was a dealer cancellation fee which ‘they’ have to credit me for, but that he did not know why the fee was so high and that he could not see the invoice, however I never heard from him again after this email. Dear Sirion - Manager - Vodacom Shop (Hicell Cellular Mooirivier Mall Potchefstroom), This email outlines the events which transpired with regards to the Vodacom SIM only data contract 200gb + 200gb which was signed at a fixed fee of R399 per month for 24 months on the 22 February 2025 at Hicell Cellular Vodacom Store Mooirivier Mall Potchefstroom with the sales consultant Marni Du Plooy and subsequent cancellation thereof due to omission of pertinent information to me as the consumer during the contract compilation, advisory and sign up with regards to increases in ‘yearly fees’. A higher deduction/debit order value which was not authorized by me the bank account holder as well as my original SIM card which has not been converted back to original LTE price plan and I am unable to use it. You will see there was a prorata fee deducted from my bank account which I agreed to for the few days in Feb from 22nd when I signed the contract. 1- Increased value of R620,36 deducted from my banking account without my knowledge or consent - Vodacom to refund me immediately. 2- My own SIM - Vodacom needs to convert it back to the original LTE price plan on prepaid immediately. You are the dealer and the manager of the store. You advised me that that you would cancel the contract due to the fact that Marni(your sales lady - who assisted and compiled the contract and with whom I signed the contract which stated a fixed monthly fee of R399 for 24 months) did not I advise me that there would be a ‘yearly increase’ 14 days after I signed the contract. I was in my right to cancel the contract as you explained. You said that was all you could do from your side was to cancel the contract. I was not happy that after all the paperwork I signed and what was explained to me, I was not advised by Marni whatsoever of an increase in prices but that the value of R399 for 24 months contract literally is why I signed the contract to begin with! I was not informed upfront as a consumer of any increases for the duration of the 24 Month contract, let alone that it would ‘increase’ 14 days later with an ‘annual increase’ - only of the value of R399 per month and could therefore not make an informed decision based on the ‘omission’ of this very important piece of information, which apparently you and your staff were well aware of. I then waited for you to take the matter up with Vodacom Headoffice and after waiting for your feedback for 2 weeks and receiving not a word from you, I decided to cancel the contract. I also requested that my sim be returned to the prepaid plan it was on before Marni (Vodacom sales lady at your store) converted my own sim over to the contract. (Noting that this is a Data sim which is only used in a router for WiFi purposes). You then advised cancellation was actioned and then I received an sms that you actioned the conversion of the sim to prepaid BUT it was not on the LTE plan as it had been on prior to the conversion. Therefore all my LTE price plans are not available at the lower costs it had been on before Marni converted it and now I am still sitting with the issue of the sim not being back to the plan it was previously on and I can’t buy those previously available lower priced data packages. Then there is the issue of extra money being deducted from my bank account with out my knowledge or permission for dealer cancellation? 1-Sirion - You have confirmed in your email below that you are aware that a value was deducted from my bank account for ‘dealer cancellation’ Question : When will I receive this money back into my bank account that was debited from my account without my knowledge or consent ? 2- My original SIM number - needs to be converted back to lte price plan I did try this option as stated below and followed the steps with the sim but it doesn’t change it back to what it was, so what must I do now ? You guys changed it with a click of a button when I signed the contract but suddenly you can’t fix it and change it back from your side ? Why is this ? I need to use it and I can’t since it doesn’t allow me to change the plan even after I tried as per below steps. The original price plan on LTE prepaid should reflect as per the below list on the Vodacom App but ever since Marni converted it to contract it changed and the SIM now needs to be converted back to the original prepaid LTE price plan to reflect the below options which are still not currently available and I am not able to change it even after going through the processes you advised. I am eagerly awaiting your speedy response to sort out these 2 issues. 1- Increased value of R620,36 deducted from my banking account without my knowledge or consent - Vodacom to refund me immediately. 2- My own SIM - Vodacom needs to convert it back to the original LTE price plan on prepaid immediately. Sirion, please note that should I not receive feedback from you within 48 hours, I will have no choice but to continue to take this matter the legal route. You can see that I have copied in various legal authorities to make them aware of what has transpired at your store and how I have been negatively financially impacted as a consumer. I am truly concerned and aggrieved that in our current economic climate, where I find myself as a recent widow, in order to survive and support my family on a day-to-day basis the need to cut back on costs and expenses, it is truly a disgrace and unacceptable that a business such as Vodacom is able to misrepresent and omit legally binding information from unsuspecting consumers such as myself in order to make a quick buck. The CPA does make provision for my request and therefore I am of the opinion that the legal entities and regulatory bodies I have copied in this email should launch a full scale investigation into the legalities and business practices at your Vodacom Store at Mooirivier Mall in Potchefstroom and Vodacom as an entity.
