Our ordeal began in April 2022 when the water pipe on our Jeep burst. Recon Engines Chamdor quoted us R85,000 to replace the engine with a reconditioned one. However, since then, Wayne Meintjies continuously demanded additional payments, claiming new issues each time. First, R7,500 to recon the turbo, then payments for a new water pump, oil pump, and more. Every month, he assured us that the car would be fixed within two weeks, but these were all lies. This pattern continued for months—always another so-called issue, always another payment.
In August 2023, Wayne Meintjies called to inform us that a fire had occurred at his workshop and that our engine, along with all our engine parts, had been destroyed. He refused to take any responsibility, telling us to claim the loss from our insurance. However, since Recon Engines Chamdor is not RMI-registered, Discovery did not cover the damages.
Instead of taking responsibility, Wayne Meintjies *****ulently claimed our engine from Outsurance, using our engine number and listing it as “stock” to benefit himself. I strongly believe there are other victims, but I can only provide proof related to my engine number. I have attached the relevant engine documentation for reference.
Wayne continued to make false promises that he would fix our Jeep, but by the end of 2024, we were forced to collect our vehicle in pieces. He had ****** everything—our engine, battery, and countless other parts—using them to repair other vehicles. We initially brought in our Jeep with an engine, paid for a reconditioned engine, a new oil pump, a new water pump, a new battery, and several other parts. What we got back was a damaged shell with nothing inside—no engine, no battery, absolutely nothing.
I urge you to stay as far away as possible from Recon Engines and Wayne Meintjies. He has no integrity, no accountability, and no shame. Don’t let him destroy your car and your finances like he did ours.
