I contracted Recon Engines, owned by Mr. Wayne Meintjies, in August 2024 to recondition and rebuild the engine on my 2010 Range Rover. He quoted 3–6 weeks and a cost of R90 000. As of October 2025, my vehicle has still not been completed or returned. https://reconengineswaynemeintjies9.wordpress.com/ I have paid R100,000 in total—R10,000 more than the R90,000 quote (Quote never officially provided, even after several requests): 13 Aug 2024: R65,000 (initial payment) 22 Aug 2024: R15,000 7 Nov 2024: R20,000 Despite these payments and many assurances, I have not received my vehicle back or credible proof of meaningful progress. During a workshop visit in April 2025, I found the engine block lying on the floor and the vehicle covered in dust—indicating no real work. The prolonged delay has caused ongoing financial loss (licensing, insurance, alternative transport).

In January 2023 Wayne took my Jeeps motor from PMB in KZN to recondition it with a quoted turn around time of 2 to 3 weeks. I got it back with many parts missing and some not mine. Motor was started and it had no oil pressure. May 2023 he took my complete Jeep to his workshop. Lots of begging and pleading for him to complete it. It is now July 2025 and I still cannot get him to complete the work. Unluckily I have fully paid him. I request photos or a completion date but this just gets ignored.

Our ordeal began in April 2022 when the water pipe on our Jeep burst. Recon Engines Chamdor quoted us R85,000 to replace the engine with a reconditioned one. However, since then, Wayne Meintjies continuously demanded additional payments, claiming new issues each time. First, R7,500 to recon the turbo, then payments for a new water pump, oil pump, and more. Every month, he assured us that the car would be fixed within two weeks, but these were all lies. This pattern continued for months—always another so-called issue, always another payment. In August 2023, Wayne Meintjies called to inform us that a fire had occurred at his workshop and that our engine, along with all our engine parts, had been destroyed. He refused to take any responsibility, telling us to claim the loss from our insurance. However, since Recon Engines Chamdor is not RMI-registered, Discovery did not cover the damages. Instead of taking responsibility, Wayne Meintjies *****ulently claimed our engine from Outsurance, using our engine number and listing it as “stock” to benefit himself. I strongly believe there are other victims, but I can only provide proof related to my engine number. I have attached the relevant engine documentation for reference. Wayne continued to make false promises that he would fix our Jeep, but by the end of 2024, we were forced to collect our vehicle in pieces. He had ****** everything—our engine, battery, and countless other parts—using them to repair other vehicles. We initially brought in our Jeep with an engine, paid for a reconditioned engine, a new oil pump, a new water pump, a new battery, and several other parts. What we got back was a damaged shell with nothing inside—no engine, no battery, absolutely nothing. I urge you to stay as far away as possible from Recon Engines and Wayne Meintjies. He has no integrity, no accountability, and no shame. Don’t let him destroy your car and your finances like he did ours.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Dealing with Wayne Meintjies, the CEO of Recon Engines in Chamdor, has been the most horrific, dishonest, and costly experience of my life. He is the biggest ***** and **** you will ever encounter. Our nightmare began when the water pipe burst on our Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Wayne quoted us R83,000 to fix it. Fast forward three years, and not only do we no longer have a Jeep, but we’ve been ****** of everything. Wayne’s deceit and shady practices have left us devastated and out of pocket by over R200,000. To make matters worse, Wayne set fire to his shop and *****ulently claimed engines, including ours, from Outsurance as stock items. This is not just incompetence—it’s outright theft. Over the past three years, we’ve endured an endless cycle of lies, empty promises, and demands for more money. Every interaction with Wayne added to the betrayal. Do yourself a favor: stay as far away as possible from Recon Engines and Wayne Meintjies. He is a con artist of the highest order. He has no integrity, no accountability, and no shame. Don’t let him destroy your car and your finances like he did ours.
