I went for an eye test to Rene Vrey Optometrist in Woodmead on 7 October. The optometrist was excellent and I cannot fault the spectacles I received. She told me they would first contact the medical aid for authorization, then they would call me for the go-ahead. I agreed. The following Monday the admin lady called me to say she had spoken to the Med Aid and they would pay 100%. I gave the go-ahead. On 21 October 2017 I went to fetch my new glasses and was told I need to pay R845. This was NOT in my budget so I asked for the reference number she received from the med aid authorizing the payment. She got all flustered and obviously didn't have anything. She was rude and starting raising her voice to me - very much on the defensive - and said to me that she would call the following work day to sort it out but I told her not to bother as I don't drive and wouldn't be able to return the next week again. I told her that I didn't believe her when she said she had called the medical aid and I reluctantly paid the amount owing. I checked with my medical aid and they didn't receive a quote or a call from Rene Very Optometrists and they would not have authorized the quote as the amount available was minimal for the lens enhancements I needed. If I had known, I would never have approved the lens enhancements and would have rather had the alternative cheaper ones added. Sadly, that was not the end. I'm now getting sms's from them (a month later) saying I must pay another R149. What for? I don't know..... Frustrating, as I now need to find transport to get there again and is this going to be the end of it? Is Rene Vrey willing to cover the expenses (travel etc.) I will incur for their ineptitude?

A month ago I went to the optometrist to get new glasses, then I get first quote which I sign for as that would be what my medical limit be,however just before all is done she suggests that I need to change the frame selected as my script will not hold on that frame. We then discussss that they should not process claim until I have confirmed with my medical aid that the claim will be covered as I was expecting my savings to be up the following month, however their assistant goes ahead and processes the claim when I call them I discover that they have claimed. The assistant is now pleading with me to at least pay half of what was claimed for and I refuse because that was not my instruction and will certainly not have that money. I call to speak to the manager and each time she is not available. Finally when I get hold of the manager and request the quote I discover that they amended the amount by hand and processed claim while I did not sign for the change and they expect me to pay .
