I am very upset with the way that my brokers is dealing with my first ever home content claim. I've reported my laptop bag that was stolen inside of my house. They've asked for proof of purchase, and I've send them the tax invoices from my company which reflected the purchases of the equipment.
They replied today, two weeks later: We regret that "Chantal" does not work for the company, and that her partner is the director of the said company. We also require proof that the Ipad was blacklisted and the cell phone.
I did not even had a cell phone on the list of stolen goods, and I do work for the company, 12 years still going, and my partner is not a director.
I really don't understand why they would have such an irrelevant reply to a simple claim logged.
Sad to say, but nowhere in the policy documentation does it states to have copies of slips for goods purchased. I now wonder if I should take photo's of my clothes, my TV's, beds, linen and anything that would be classified under the home contents. Insurance is just so impossible when you have to submit a claim. They would only then inform you of all the requirements and they keep quite as you happily pay to be insuranced, but not knowing that they make it impossible for you to claim. Even the smallest claim that I've logged recently. I dont have confidence or a trust relationship with the brokers anymore. I cannot believe that a company can be so pethetic, and unproffesional. I dont know why they had to make personal comments regarding my employment, or my partner, and add things on my list of stolen goods, that I've not added.
Cannot wait to find a short term broker to replace this company.
Dear Ms Chantel Burger
Runis Campher Brokers takes note of the comments posted by you on Hellopeter with regards to the insured Mr Valsecchi claim who is the rightful policy holder.
As an insured you have certain responsibilities as stipulated in your policy schedule/wording and we would respectfully highlight these for you, namely:
You can only claim for items in which you have an insurable interest. (In this case you do not.)
As the insured you need to take reasonable steps to prevent any loss or damage to your insured property.
We restore your financial position. How much we compensate you is always based on the value of the lost property and not the sentimental or other specific value the property may hold for you.
You cannot claim more than the sum insured – compensation will be based on the value of the lost property.
In the event of a claim we set out the necessary documents and steps which need to be followed and in this regard we would specifically refer you to step 4 of the claim procedure which reads:
“ If you haven’t already dealt with this when you first reported the claim, please ensure you send us the following within 30 days please refer to point 3 and 4:
Full written details of the claim
Particulars of any other policy covering the claim
Any other documentation we think is necessary to handle the claim (such as police documents receipts, invoices or witness statements)
Proof of value and insurable interest, if required by us”
Time limits you have is 30 days to submit the relevant document to show that the items belonged to you and not the items the company had purchased. Nowhere in the documentation does it show that any of the items were given to you as a gift or part of the company perk.
If your claim is rejected you may appeal to the Ombudsman
We confirm that you are in receipt of the policy and that you were advised to read through the policy wording and that it was your responsibility to familiarise yourself with the content thereof.
Kindly be advised that you have failed and/or neglected to provide us with the necessary proof of ownership of the items lost/ stolen and you have also failed to proof your insurable interest in the items claimed.
In light of the above if we do not receive your documents within 5 days your claim may be rejected and you can then approach the relevant ombudsman, details of which are provided herein above.
As we have requested on numerous occasion for the relevant document. The onus is on you to provide us with proof of ownership. Runis Campher Brokers are not able to finalise the claim without the relevant documents and thus the delay is on your side.
Please provide us with the required documents and proof thereof in order for us to finalise the claim.
Best regards,
