I am writing to lodge a formal complaint and seek urgent assistance regarding the conduct of a company called Shackleton Credit Management. Approximately two years ago, I was contacted by this company, which claimed to be acting as legal representatives for Old Mutual. They informed me that I needed to make payment arrangements for a credit account I allegedly owed to Old Mutual from about eight years ago. Based on their representation, I initially believed they were genuine lawyers working on behalf of Old Mutual. However, I have since discovered that Shackleton Credit Management is not a law firm but rather a debt collection company that purchases old, closed, or written-off accounts. It appears they misrepresented themselves and used deceptive tactics to pressure me into paying money that I do not owe. Furthermore, they have threatened to blacklist me with the credit bureau or place my name under judgment if I fail to comply. I find this behaviour *********, misleading, and deeply distressing. I kindly request that your office to investigate this matter and advise on the appropriate steps I can take to protect myself from these unfair practices. Thank you for your attention and assistance in this matter. Yours sincerely Rebone Mosoma

I would like to share my bad experience with shackleton on which they wrongfully put themselves on my credit record with Capitec, that was closed and written off. They did so without notifying me so that I could acknowledge it. How could they do such I'm very disappointed in how they operate.

✨ South Africans, Together We Can End Debt Exploitation! ✨ Across the country, people are being weighed down by unfair debt practices – debts bought cheaply are pursued at hugely inflated amounts. But here’s the truth: when we stand together, we are stronger than the systems that exploit us. Change is possible if we unite, raise our voices, and demand fairness for all. Here’s the ugly truth: 💰 These companies buy our debts for next to nothing – cents in the rand – then come after us for the full inflated amount, with added charges and interest. ⚖️ The NCR even classifies them as “credit providers,” giving them legal cover to exploit us, even though they never provided the credit in the first place. 📉 Millions of South Africans are being dragged into deeper poverty, while a handful of companies make obscene profits from our suffering. This isn’t just unfair – it’s abuse. The very bodies that were created to protect us, the NCR and NCT, have become toothless. They allow this to continue while families are destroyed financially. We cannot sit back anymore. ✊ South Africans must stand together in unity and demand change. Silence only benefits the exploiters. We need to raise our voices and hold these regulators accountable. They owe us answers: Why are debt purchasers being legitimised as “credit providers”? Why are they allowed to demand full inflated balances on debts bought for a fraction of the cost? What real action will be taken to protect consumers? 📢 Enough is enough. Let’s stand shoulder to shoulder and show these companies – and the regulators that enable them – that South Africans will not be silent while exploitation continues. Unity is our only power. Together, we can demand justice.

I want to expose what debt purchasers like Shackleton Credit Management, MBD Attorneys, Nimble Group, Acquifin, and others are doing – and how the National Credit Regulator (NCR) and National Consumer Tribunal (NCT) are doing absolutely nothing to protect us. Good day I paid my debt finished at the end of July. I was promised i would get a paid up letter as soon as i make the last payment. I have sent numerous emails to ask for the the paid up letter. This company put a red flag on my name and i made arrangements with them. On my credit bureau it still shows I am owing R1800 which is not the case. Please help me in this regard. I don't know what to do anymore. Trisha Briekwa

These people are demanding payment for what I believe is a prescribed account. They claim that the account I took is accumulating more than R2,000 in charges every month. They also say that the account was handed over to them by Capitec in 2021.Companies like this are te reason why people are drowining in debts.Millions of South africans leave their jobs, their loved ones and more because of companies like this I woneder if what they are doing can be done to their loved ones or them how will they take it.God is not a fool what goes around comes around.
