Since February 2020, one of Sibanye Stillwater's houses ( 87 Reinecke Street Carletonville) is abandoned. The previous resident left the mine. Since then the mine just left the house unattended without any security. on the evening of 15 March 2020 we pick up that there is somebody vandalizing the house ( we live next door in 89 Reinecke Street), as they try to steal our one security beam. we got hold of our private security company, but the vandals got way. The next day we pick up that the taps were stolen and the water was running out of the taps. My son and myself try to close the municipal valve , but we could only do it up to a point. We also pick up that the back door was not locked, so I went and lock it with my own lock. The security company contacted the mine about the house, but they did nothing. there were looters several times in the house afterwards. the Carletonville Herald even put an article in the newspaper about this house and contacted the mine without any response. the looters came back and broke open one of the windows burglar proofing to enter the house. they came back afterwards and broke of the padlock I put on. All the inside doors, all the taps, all the wiring, including two DB boards as well as the all the piping is stolen. what worries me is that Sibanye Stilllwater cares for the community, but here they are creating a crime hot spot. South Africa is a water poor country and the Carletonville area is well known for its sink holes and dolomite ground, but there is thousands of liters of waters just running away and seeping into the ground. I left this message here because of the fact that I did not get any response, and see this as a next step in reporting this matter.
