An unpleasant stay in a "luxury", "eco" estate.

I stayed during the holidays with some family who own a home here, and it was not very impressive. I was appalled that they make as much money (the HOA) and still My estate in JHB rarely tops the best estates in SA lists online, yet my estate is better run with its own utilities, more services for the residences, a better layout, and better infrastructure.

The power constantly went off when there was load shedding, and the water was brown half the time. I have never stayed in such an expensive place that does not have generators or back-up supplies of electricity and water.

My sister who lives there said that there is some type of plan to make the estate more self-sufficient but that it has been in the works for years now. It is a bit sad. I saw the other reviews, and I am ashamed to say that they are not inaccurate. Over the years, I have noticed the estate has failed to add anything new. TO add on to that, a lot of their new apartment and townhouse housing looks like RDP houses while being in the expensive golf part of the estate. I am shocked at the poor planning allowing mansions to be built next to RDP style condos.

The other thing that I noticed is how dirty the roads are. They are not kept up well at all and look rough. There are dips in the road (the area is very hilly) that fill with mud and water when it rains, and then there are no sidewalks throughout most of the estate, too. It is quite disgusting in places.
