The Zoo has been maintained as well as it can be. Most of the enclosures are full with the exception of a few ( like Mokoko the Gorilla who passed away in March). Great to see the Parking has been upgraded since I was last here. Animals are in good condition and the zoo is clean. The stages restaurant serves the best beef burger ever!
If you in the mood to take a walk and embrace nature and don't want to travel far, then I suggest walking the paths of Melville Koppies, you will have to pay when entering the reserve but there are plenty of paths to choose from that will lead you all over the place, the view from the top of the koppie is quite vast and you pretty much have a full 360° from Randburg to Sandton and central Johannesburg. Discover the rich archaeological history and see the ruins, just know that it's relatively short and only if you zig zag and repeat a few turns you can work up to 5.5km, moderate to steep hike so take extra water.
One of the top 20 best curated Museum focusing particularly on the horrific atrocities of the Apartheid Era in South Africa. A mix of video clips, audio clips, print articles & real artifacts to depict the narrative in chronological order for your convenience. Wheelchair friendly spaces. A restaurant for you to take a break & have coffee with a sandwich or slice of cake. The museum shop has loads of of books, apparel & souvenirs to purchase. The only thing that I wish they would add are the atrocities committed by the ANC after the fact which have further divided the nation. Apartheid may have ended, but the separation of people based on class and race is very much encouraged by the ANC because of its racism and hatred of white and coloured peoples. They are in many ways worse than the apartheid regime, but no one seems to want to admit that.
Campus Square is on University road right opposite University of Johannesburg Campus. The shopping centre has a bit of all the modern shops and a couple of restaurants. Ample parking with good security on the open and in the ba*****t as well.
I have been dealing with Zelda today and her professionalism, patience and utter friendliness is such a welcoming experience. Thank you for the awesome experience and always being willing to help. These past few days have been super stressful with the constant power outages in KZN, so I am so glad to have a company that cares and gets back to me at all even though I do not have a super expensive plan with them. I never feel like I am talking to a brick wall unlike with my previous provider... let's not even go there 😅
A treat for all comic fans. Lovely warehouse filled with goodies from young to old. Some magical items only seen in your dreams, and the movies. Lots of memorabilia, some cheap and some going for over R300K. Also a lovely spot to sit down and have a bite to eat or just coffee, doggies welcome as well. It was just so enjoyable, and it is so rare that you find a place like this in this country. I am so used to having to import such items and memorabilia.
At first, seemed nice, with big rooms, very friendly and supportive staff, and *excellent food* (my compliments to the chef once more, this was what got the two stars, it should have been one). But over time, the problems started: some dirty corners could be seen in many places, sewer smells in my corridor, not totally clean dishes given to guests and, the worst of all, lots and lots of blackouts (I lost hours of work and productivity due to this). The manager was very evasive and subtly manipulative. This had everything to be a great experience but unfortunately lost my fidelity. I am very sorry for the kind and attentive staff that warmly welcomed me, but I do not recommend this hotel.
The food is excellent although moderate portions so make sure to have all three courses on offer. Only hiccup would be getting the steaks right, you need to order medium rare if you want medium. They are not a budget friendly place to go but the food is made fresh on order and worth the wait of about 30 minutes or so, drinks are also pricey but they do have the corkage charge option on wine and I think malt. Still, very enjoyable all round and definitely worth going back a few times to enjoy all the menu options. A solid 4.25 score from our group of 13 people. The extra 0.25 is because they are open pretty late for a Sunday. I don't know what time the kitchen takes last orders for food but drinks were not a problem. Thanks to all the staff and mostly to Thelani who served us.
I stayed during the holidays with some family who own a home here, and it was not very impressive. I was appalled that they make as much money (the HOA) and still My estate in JHB rarely tops the best estates in SA lists online, yet my estate is better run with its own utilities, more services for the residences, a better layout, and better infrastructure. The power constantly went off when there was load shedding, and the water was brown half the time. I have never stayed in such an expensive place that does not have generators or back-up supplies of electricity and water. My sister who lives there said that there is some type of plan to make the estate more self-sufficient but that it has been in the works for years now. It is a bit sad. I saw the other reviews, and I am ashamed to say that they are not inaccurate. Over the years, I have noticed the estate has failed to add anything new. TO add on to that, a lot of their new apartment and townhouse housing looks like RDP houses while being in the expensive golf part of the estate. I am shocked at the poor planning allowing mansions to be built next to RDP style condos. The other thing that I noticed is how dirty the roads are. They are not kept up well at all and look rough. There are dips in the road (the area is very hilly) that fill with mud and water when it rains, and then there are no sidewalks throughout most of the estate, too. It is quite disgusting in places.
