Horrible Experience and Manipulation on 5 Star Reviews

The only reason this school even gets a one star is because it's impossible to give 0 stars. I had the unfortunate experience of enrolling my child in Teneo. And before you get all starry-eyed at their seemingly stellar reviews, I'll explain how they manipulate that, too, so please, read until the end. If anyone ever considers Teneo, ask yourself this one question: "why are their comments turned off on social media, specifically Instagram?" Because they'll simply never have the capacity to mange the plethora of complaints. Towards the end of last year, in fact 2 months shy of my daughter completing term 4 of her grade 9 year, they terminated my contract all because I got vocal on a billing dispute. Now, while I agree, using a few brown words (against my better judgement) wasn't my best form, not once did I direct my anger towards a person - it was towards THE SITUATION. Regardless, I accept my choice of words were inappropriate. Also, it's impossible to even direct anything to a single person because no one ever signs off an email with their name so at no point when raising queries do you feel like you're actually speaking to a person, comms are always signed off by "Teneo Education" or "Teneo Team". So fine, my daughter's access got revoked, (despite me having already paid the fees in full after raising a dispute in billing charges), yet I managed to enrol her in another online institute to complete her term 4 exams, which she passed with flying colours, no thanks to Teneo Education. Teneo terminated my account without realising that I had already paid my account in full, plus the late fees as imposed by their new system. At the time of termination they didn't even bother checking the status of my account. Only after the termination did I get an email stating "apologies, we didn't realise this account was paid in full". So just because someone acted on their emotion by taking offence to a few brown words, did they end up losing a fee-paying client. Yes, this dispute resulted from my fees being paid a few days late DURING A SCHOOL HOLIDAY, it was still paid in full before the term started. My dispute related to a late fee that was charged, which I thought was unreasonable since it was during a school break. Regardless, I paid the penalty and my daughter's account was still suspended. So instead of de-escalating an irate situation, they blindly acted on incorrect information and terminated my contract. I immediately accepted the termination because by then I was so tired of the way they operate, I had no intention of re-enrolling my daughter in grade 10 and enrolling my son in grade 8. Earlier in the year we had already decided that 2025 would be the last year with Teneo. Their teachers are often absent, my daughter had so many last minute cancelled lessons because the teacher didn't pitch or let the class know a few minutes before the time that there are no lessons. I've raised this with the school and was told the matter is being "investigated". Their systems seemed to be in a continuous state of "maintenance" every time I tried to log into the portal it redirected me to a different portal, at one point I had 5 different logins and none of them worked! I also raised this with their IT and had no resolution. I simply gave up knowing it was my last year at this *********** institution. After my swift acceptance to the termination, I started the dreadful task of fighting for my money back, because I had already paid fees in advance in full. Eventually I was told that the refund will only be paid if I agreed not to raise any complaints on a public platform. EXCUSE ME? It is my right to share my story. They are in no position to dictate that to me. Now, let me explain how this school seemingly gets such stellar reviews. In December of 2025, after the awful experience I had with this school, after they chose to terminate my account, do the they send me an exciting letter to offer me a bursary!! Because my daughter has excelled academically, and they believe this needs to be celebrated. Shocking, in know. But wait, the bursary is subject to Ts&Cs: I needed to right a raving review and record my success story for them to post on social media! TF?? So the 5 star reviews you're seeing on HelloPeter and all the success stories you're seeing on social media (mind you, where comments are turned off) are of parents who entered into a "competition" to win a bursary for 2026. Here's an excerpt of the email I received: "To celebrate, we're offering five bursaries exclusively to families of Teneo's Most Improved Learners* who share their Teneo story on HelloPeter and BrandLens. The top five stories shared on HelloPeter and BrandLens by midnight on Sunday, 7 December 2025 will unlock fully funded school fees for 2026." So that, ladies and gentlemen, is how this institution has such a high rating on this platform - in my opinion, of course. They played on the desperation of the economy we face, because who would deny themselves a chance to miss out on a bursary? So, in conclusion, this school's practices leave plenty to be desired. And I for one, am so grateful I got my kid out of there.

Teneo an Inclusive online school

My son Tyrell, a little person, joined Teneo after excelling academically in a mainstream private school but faced limitations in sports participation. Teneo has been life‑changing, fostering independence, self‑drive, and motivation while embracing a culture of inclusion that still celebrates individuality. The school’s commitment, especially before exams with extra lessons in subjects like math and physics, shows genuine care for its students. In Grade 10 this year, he ranked among the top 10% of his grade in Information Technology and Mathematics, and among the top 20% in Business Studies. Beyond academics, Teneo has empowered Tyrell to achieve extraordinary milestones: he became the first little person to complete a triathlon and proudly earned his Gauteng colours in cycling. Teneo is not just an online school; it creates leaders of the future and makes dreams possible.

No true support for parents

Teneo’s lessons and teachers are wonderful. The concept is amazing. The problem lies in the feedback and communication; especially when one has to deal with issues surrounding the payment of fees. The invoices and statements don’t show all payments made by parents. There is no one to contact directly in the accounts department who is able to assist. Everything goes through helpdesk consultants. If you wish to query an account that is teetering on suspension, you can’t contact the accounts department directly, and this means a delay in an already sensitive situation. If we could liaise with the accounts department directly and request that a payment made via credit card through Paygate be checked for receipt on Teneo’s side, that would help parents. But, communication is slow, it is unclear, the consultants don’t seem to be trained sufficiently to deal with time-sensitive issues of suspended accounts and don’t seem to escalate to a supervisor who can assist. Copy and paste responses are the norm and there’s no one you can call for assistance. You’ll pay your account in full with extra funds, (like I have just done) and there is no way to know whether Teneo accounts department has allocated that payment because you have to wait for them to send you a statement via email once per month! So, even if your fees are not in arrears, they can still suspend your child in the middle of writing exams or tests because they aren’t allocating payments immediately, even when you use the proper reference number for your family account (TFC …) It’s as though everything is hidden behind a screen for some strange reason. In addition, there are often technical issues with Invigilator app during tests and exams and learners have to wait to get support online and all the time it takes to get support is NOT given back to the learner, so if the have a test written for an hour and 15 minutes was taken away because they had to chat to online exam support, that 15 minutes is not given back to the learner as extra time to complete their test, which is wholly unfair! It’s a brilliant and very convenient concept - the teachers teach well, and the system has such wonderful potential, but there’s so much room for improvement. As I write this, I have no idea whether my learner’s account will be suspended and it worries me so much because she has a week of tests upcoming. I know my account is pad on full with an extra R1000 credit overpaid by me, but who knows when they will allocate this money which wasn’t even an EFT needing 2 days to clear. It’s reallly unfair to parents to have to worry and struggle. So much more training is required by consultants. You’re dealing with financial queries and money that has been paid, but no one reads the true query. Just copy and paste responses. You can do so much better Teneo. Please take the opportunity to learn, train, teach and actually assist paying parents promptly.

Happy Parent

Since we enrolled our daughter, Sune, with Teneo, our experience with homeschooling has been nothing short of life-changing. The transition was seamless, and the support we've received has been phenomenal, far exceeding our expectations of online learning. Sune struggled with anxiety and was bul**** and felt overwhelmed in a traditional school environment, which was affecting her confidence and grades. Teneo provided the flexible environment she needed to thrive. The ability for her to plan her schedule and revisit recorded lessons whenever she needs to has significantly reduced her stress and allowed her to learn at her own pace. They are helpful, and provide the one-on-one attention that was lacking in mainstream school. We've seen a remarkable improvement in Sune's academic performance. Choosing Teneo was the best decision we could have made for Sune's well-being and education. We highly recommend Teneo.

I have never looked back since enrolling my child at Tenoe Online Education.

I have never looked back since enrolling my child at Teneo Education. It was truly the best decision, as I no longer have to worry about school transport, uniforms, stationery, bullying, weather conditions, or lunch boxes. The staff and teachers are very helpful, and parents are kept well informed about the day-to-day running of academic lessons. They also offer a variety of extra-mural activities. Our children are encouraged to excel, and those who perform well academically are even rewarded with Takealot vouchers, which is a wonderful motivation.
