Yesterday evening my husband and I were bitterly disappointed by the service that we received at The Galley on Fish Hoek beach. In such beautiful surrounds, visited, no doubt, by many tourists, both local and international, this restaurant is a dismal flop. No indication that it was Valentine's Day at all. After waiting over 10 minutes, I had to walk inside to fetch the menu. No attention from waitrons at all - they appear to walk around with blinkers on. The best thing about the meal was the choccocino and cappuccino, which were creamy and comforting. Otherwise, the food was a pathetic show. My husband's spaghetti bolognaise tasted rubbery and old. My calamari was minimal and their savoury rice was a joke, with little pieces of something in that you couldn't even taste - a quarter of the size of the usual diced veggies that you'd normally get elsewhere. What appeared to be a cheese sauce left over from another diner came with the dish, instead of the usual sauce tartare. Cutlery brought several minutes after the food, so that it was partly cold by the time that one could start eating. Utensils given to us brought from another table, with an empty chocolate wrapper that the waitron did not even bother to remove before plonking it on our table. Aggressive attitude from floor manager when we complained. She insisted that everything was freshly made and stood over me as though she were an enraged lioness whose cubs were in danger. The drinks sre fine, but the food is highly questionable - didn't know which stank more, the food or the attitude. Restaurant a convenient pickup joint for single women and elderly gents in the evening - need I say more?
