CLARIFICATION No other reason than, P & P Lephalale desk managers were the last " management I discussed this with, so for this preview, let's use Pick & Pay - Lephalale town branch. This review is not against " The General Store or Pick and Pay. but I had to put somebody's name in (a required field entry) - sorry, General Store & Pick & Pay "; This is against all retailers who run a specific day of the week as " Pensioner Day". I am a pensioner (77 years old) for the whole week, not just on Tuesday, and I do not understand why giant retailers should insult me ( yes, I actually feel insulted when I get to the till, and I ask for my "pensioner discount and I get told " sorry Sir, we don't do pensioner discounts on a Wednesday. Our pensioner day is every Tuesday. " But I could not get here yesterday because (1 of a hundred reasons why I could not get to the store on "pensioner day Tuesday) and I promise you I am still a pensioner, I have not won the Lotto (and therefore I can afford to pay non pensioner discounted prices, i.e. I no longer need the R10 I might saved on PD"s (Pensioner Discounts) if I had got here yesterday.) " Sorry Sir, I only work here. Management makes those decisions. Management's response- " Sorry, Sir, but it is what it is". " 50 years ago, we did a heart transplant. We are now on the verge of colonizing Mars. How difficult can it be to work out a simple system that tracks when (on which day of the week) I took advantage of pensioner day and saved a couple of rands? WHERE THERE'S A WILL, THER'S A WAY. now the response at the till can be - " Sir according to our records you received your Pensioner Discounts when you shopped here on Wednesday. Today is Friday. You only get one day a week to take advantage of our pensioner discounts " so much better than " Sorry Sir but you lost out - Pensioner Day was yesterday" " But I am still a pensioner, and I was counting on my discounts "

On 08 November 2025, I purchased an LED light from The General Store (Pretoria East) for R450. Upon attempted installation later that day, the product malfunctioned—flickering continuously and switching off intermittently. I returned to the store the next morning to request a refund or replacement. Despite explaining the defect and referencing my rights under the Consumer Protection Act (Sections 55, 56, and 20), the staff refused to assist. They claimed the product was “cut,” dismissed my concerns, and demanded I leave. They then threw all my receipts across the counter and told me to take my money and go. I was short-changed without explanation and explicitly told, “Never come back here again.” Even though I have reported this to their Head Office, they have never come back to me with any explanation or apology. This was deeply disrespectful and discriminatory. I was denied fair treatment, publicly humiliated, and unjustly banned from the store. Additionally, I observed that the store employs undocumented Zimbabwean nationals, which may contravene the Immigration Act (Sections 38 and 49). I have reported this matter to the Department of Employment and Labour and the Department of Home Affairs for investigation. I urge The General Store’s head office to: - Investigate the conduct of the Pretoria East branch - Refund the outstanding R130 - Issue a formal apology - Ensure compliance with consumer and labour laws

THIS HAS ACTUALLY BEEN A REPETITIVELY EXPERIENCE AND AM.FINALLY DOING THIS REVIEW! RECENTLY I PURCHASED A BATTERY OPERATED NIGHT LIGHT FROM YOUR STORE THAT REQUIRED 3 X AAA BATTERIES. DESPITE BEING SOLD A MERE 7 DAY GUARANTEE, THE PRODUCT FAILED SHORTLY AFTER THAT PERIOD. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE FOR A NEW ITEM. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I HAVE ENCOUNTERED SUBSTANDARD ELECTRICAL GOODS AT YOUR STORE, BUT IT WILL CERTAINLY BE THE LAST!! WHAT IS MORE DISTURBING THAN THE POOR QUALITY MERCHANDISE IS THE SHEER RUDENESS AND UNPROFESSIONALISM OF YOUR STAFF! THE MANAGER! HE IS SHOCKINGLY IMPOLITE AND EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. IT IS CLEAR THAT THE GENERAL STORE IS MORE CONCERNED WITH PUSHING OUT CHEAP, FAULTY GOODS THAN OFFERING GENUINE VALUE OR CUSTOMER CARE.. AS A CUSTOMER I EXPECT TO BE TREATED WITH BASIC RESPECT.....SOMETHING YOUR STORE CLEARLY LACKS! THERE IS A FAMOUS SAYING, "WHAT SITS AT THE TOP ALWAYS FILTERS DOWN TO THE BOTTOM"! I STRONGLY ADVISE OTHER POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS IN THE P.E. AREA TO NOW RATHER SUPPORT J.H. FLORAL WHO HAVE MOVED FROM NEWTON PARK TO KING'S COURT. I FOUND THE STAFF FRIENDLY, EXCELLENT SERVICE AND THE AFTER SALES SUPPORT RELIABLE AND RESPECTFUL. CONSUMERS DESERVE BETTER AND I ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO TAKE THEIR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE! I would like to advise every store to get the salesperson trained because in this day and age there is no customer services in any store or restaurants .is it so bad to be polite and show some respect. most of them don't devise the position they are in. In our days customer service was a big thing the staff in the stores treated customer with help and respect not these days. most of them are very rude

I visit your Meadowdale branch almost every day. Many of the items I buy are useful but many are defective / useless. Among the latter are USB / Micro adaptor cables. And it seems that you KNOW this, because the prices are reduced to R10 and R12. I have bought at least 5 of these only to subsequently throw them away. And no. I do not still have the receipts. If I don't get any satisfaction from you, I will contact every consumer body I can find. It is a matter of principle.

A HUGE shoutout to Sabelo and Aaqil who were incredibly helpful to me. Struggling with a cat who was on a feeding tube and who could not eat or drink I took in an old water fountain which was not working to buy a new adapter as I thought the plug was broken. They checked the plug and said it was not the just the plug but the water pump that was broken and spent at least an hour fixing the fountain, which required that they modified some of the fountain, cutting and refitting it and cutting some of the wiring to the pump to get the fountain work again.. the showed expertise and an enormous willingness to help me even though the pump cost was only R110. the fountain is now working beautifully and my cat is drinking from it all the time. Thank you for your kindness, your caring and willingness to help and go the extra mile. You now have a customer for a life. They are both a true asset to your business and I am extremely grateful to them.

this is CHINISE store, there are very rude. they dont care about customers right strictly no refunds, they always have excuses when they have to help, i purchuse curtely that im allowed to rufund or exchange within 7 days. on top of that they don't even have stock of what i bought. before i pay i asked if they will get more they agree.
