I’m writing to warn others about my experience with Daniel Kniess (“The German Roofer”). He replaced the roof at 40 Woodlands, Woodstock, quoting almost three times higher than all other contractors, claiming his work and materials were of “the highest quality” with a 2-year workmanship and 10-year materials guarantee.
From day one, the roof continued to leak. Despite repeated reports, Daniel misdiagnosed the issue, blaming plumbing instead of his own waterproofing. Independent specialists later confirmed that the leak originated from his work, not the pipes. I incurred unnecessary costs following his incorrect advice.
Now, within the 2-year warranty period, the roof is again leaking badly. Daniel has refused to respond to calls or attend site, claiming the guarantee is void because another contractor inspected the damage — the same contractor I had to call only because Daniel stopped responding.
Independent experts have since confirmed poor workmanship and failed materials: the bitumen torch-on and Roofcote aluminium coating have delaminated, causing water damage and rot in the wood below. They also discovered silicone used where bitumen should have been app****, proving the work was substandard from the start.
This is not normal wear and tear — it’s failed workmanship sold at a premium price. Daniel’s refusal to honour his warranty or take responsibility is deeply unprofessional and unacceptable.
⚠️ Public warning: Avoid The German Roofer / Daniel Kniess. He overcharges, under-delivers, and does not stand by his guarantees. What was promised as “German quality” turned out to be a costly and stressful mistake.
