I was loaned a too small 3/4 violin with frayed, aged strings. I requested a full sized violin for adult use from get go. I have been unable to either play the instrument nor to return it. The library was made aware of this. I am unhappy with the instrument loaned to me. I am glad I had not paid in my deposit nor rental for I do not trust I would have been able to recover either the deposit nor instrument rental. The aged state of violin string was brought to their attention, the owner dismissed my query which proved well founded on my experience that followed. The string questioned snapped. I was not prepared to pay for the loan of an instrument not in good working, reliable order. The strings broke soon as I played it. I appealed to library to eaive urgency to return as I had critical deadlines to meet with a crisis at home. Last week, I came down with swine flu so I am too infectious, to cone in with my being so ill. I received a letter of demand for deposit & rental - I reject this claim tge instrumentcwas not lianed to me in good conditiin. Ivtrustrd lian in good faith and I have been sorely disappointed. I understand the library's concern about the well being of said instrument. I have assured them in person by phone of its safe return. I reject a letter of demand to be made to pay for the loan of a defective instrument with old strings. This is tantamount to holding me hostage for purchase new strings? This is unacceptable.
