The main reason for using the Kitchen Factory was because they said they could have the units built in 3 days. I paid the 50% deposit & I was told that another 40% would be payable to release my order. Almost 2 weeks later the owner Brian & the factory manager Kevin called & emailed early in the morning chasing the 40%. After paying the 40% I was told that they actually hadn’t finished all the units & they were still waiting for materials. In total it took 6-7 weeks for them to deliver the kitchen as things came in drips & drabs. Presumably they wanted to clear their warehouse & I think Brian just told us that to get our business.

A large proportion of the units were completely wrong - e.g. wrong sizes - or damaged. Technically all were wrong as I ordered white units with white trim but I received units that were a mixture of white & brown with brown trim.

The quality of the units is extremely poor. The majority of the doors, drawers, units & side panels are chipped because I have found out that they used the wrong type of saw blade. There are also many scratches & one of the units came with gouges in the exposed sides. Maybe this happened due to the unprofessional way the units were delivered. None of the 15 drawers are level, they point downwards, & it’s extremely hard to open them because the runners. The drawers in the drawer units rub against each other & where there are units with a door & a drawer, the drawers rub on the doors.

Shelves are not level & some wobble because they’re too narrow or because the holes for the shelf supports have been incorrectly drilled. The shelf for the microwave is actually bowing as it was made with no supports. The frosted glass doors are patchy & have been damaged by the fitter.

They have supplied inferior quality items to what I ordered. I ordered soft closing hinges & runners. I have been informed by another kitchen company they have used the wrong type of hinges were used as in they are not meant for kitchen units. The runners are not soft closing but standard ball bearing runners. The majority of the drawers do not open properly & the runners are either stiff or broken. Kevin said grit has got in them when they fitted them. The ball bearing came out of one of the runners when my wife opened the drawer for the first time & some of the other the runners are also broken. I ordered aluminium kick plates but I received plastic kickplates with a very thin foil on the front. Some of the items I paid for were not delivered such as side panels which were no cheap.

Their fitter, Armando, did an appalling job of fitting the units & missed many appointments & turning up unannounced. He set the adjustable legs too high so there is a gap between the units & the kickplates. The kickplates are not secured. The doors have been attached to low or high so they don’t line up with the units. I can tell he made several attempts to attach doors by the number of holes he drilled for the hinges. The doors & drawers are not level or flush. The hinges are not straight which puts pressure on the door & some hinges comes out when opening the doors. I am sure they will break soon. The fitter actually damaged some doors fitting hinges. The *****s for the hinges are not in straight but are at various angles. The boxing between the wall units & ceiling have not been secured so it could fall down. Some of the *****s that attach the drawer fronts to the drawers & the back panels for the island are sticking through.

I had to deal with Kevin to try & get the issues resolves, as after paying the 40% Brian stopped taking my calls. Kevin promised to fix issues this didn’t happen. He rarely called me, even when missing appointments, & I always had to chase him. He told me that I should use the final 10% balance to get someone else to finish off the kitchen. The 10% doesn’t even cover the things that have not been delivered, let alone replace the damaged & faulty parts/units. It’s not possible to really fix the kitchen & replacement is the only real option.

I am extremely angry with Brian Gomes & the Kitchen Factory. They are clearly incompetent & do not offer any kind of customer service. Brian is just interested in getting his hands on your money. He doesn’t reply to attempts to contact him & has no intention of finding proper resolution to issues. He has blatantly blocked my calls. I know this because I called him using my mobile which went through to voicemail & the next minute I called via Skype & he answered. In my mind he is dishonest, dishonorable & should not be allowed to trade.

Searching for “Kitchen Factor Brian Gomes” brings up similar complaints spanning many years. I wish I’d seen them before giving them my money which represents several years worth of savings.

I am left with a poorly made, scratched, chipped & unfinished kitchen that is falling apart. Since Brian does not wish to speak to me to resolve these issues I will be taking legal action against him & have already been in contact with an attorney.

If you want a new kitchen then definitely give the Kitchen Factory a miss! Use a company that is registered of the KSA. I have had the kitchen inspect by another company & he was appalled at the quality & fitting of the units. Please note there is a different company in Brakpan with the same name. I don’t know if some of the good reviews are for that company. I can’t see how anything good can out of the company I had the misfortune to deal with.
