The same Rudi Carstens that was involved with Topcrete are now involved with Screedflooringsa. One of his big customers in West Coast lost over R100 000 because the floor Rudi supply him was faulty. The top floor of home was cracking and Rudi told builder that he can do nothing about it.. He also are the reason why almost all of his workers left him due to non payment . I would not be suprised if his last worker who are still with him will also left him.

Don't even contemplate hiring Rudi Carstens to do your flooring. He took our deposit and did such a lousy job that we had to stop him from continuing. The quality of product he used when doing the job was not the same as the product applied when he quoted. Our floors were a mess! When we tried to get him to fix his mess, he disappeared and would not answer our calls. We also tried serving legal papers on him to an address in Okavanga Junction, Brackenfell but we were told the business, TopCrete, no longer exists.

We had Rudi (business owner) personally come to inspect our raw substrain floor and to give a quote for job.

We then got told that or floor had some hollow patches and that we need to pay a extra fee to repair the floor.

We paid the extra amount to which at our ignarance of concrete and how it needs to be repaired, the team came in with a sanding machine to skim the surface and not repair the hollow substrate.

The floor was then cast on the 9th of June 2016 once all was finished the consistancey of floor quality was obvious to the untrained eye, some areas smooth others very rough with incosistant texture.

By this stage we had paid in full.

After no longer than a week, this product that was sold to us to be "The most endurable product on the market" started to crack in a few areas. At first I expected to odd crack, but a day later the cracks started to lift off the substrate all over the house.

We then had back and forth arguments as the floor was meant to be "repaired" and to my shock Rudi said it was our fault that the floor lifted to our faulty substrate!

He then suggested another company to remove the whole substrate and and recast the floor at a extra R6k!

We then decided this is taking far to long to keep arguing and went ahead to get the floor repaired... again!

The company that repaierd the floor came back to re cast about 6 times as they kept laying a fautly mix. and then a dozen times more to do patch work.

By this stage I was ALOT MORE researched regarding cement and its mixtures, screed flooring products etc

We had now booked a date with Rudi and the team to come recast as they had agreed to but down a new layer for us now that the floor was ready to be cast ... 5 months later.

After endless back and foth trying to land a date on when to have them come in, we finally got a date.

And the day before they were ment to arrive I got a phone call from Rudi saying that their workers had an accedent and were unable to work.

Then he said that he has "Delivered" all he needs to and feels he no longer owes us any products or services.

We now have paid these guys a total of Total of R14,292 and have no floor...

I then took the liberty of getting floor paint and painting the floor myself! as my wife and I had had enough after 6/7 months of living in a 10th of our own home.

We have issued a small claims summons and we shall see what the next 14 days reveal.

I highly warn against this company, for their work ethics, always broken promises, poor product quality and always rushed working condisions.

I agree fully with Sherlock2016, am very suspicious of the so called 5-star rating all of a sudden. Those who fall for Rudi Carstens and his antics will soon feel it in their reduced bank balance. Don't pay this man a cent, don't even consider contracting him. We have been trying to track him for months to have legal documents served on him, so have others, but he is no where to be found, not even at his non-existant business address. If you want confirmation, contact the Sherif at Brackenfell.

Surprised to see a handful of 5-star comments all of a sudden:) Must be all good friends... Anyway, I am so happy to have terminated the contract BEFORE the worst could happen! thanks to all of the bad reviews here on Hello Peter, I was suspicious and had an extra eye on the Prepwork - which is the same company- ! They showed with there unprofessional pre-work to have no understanding about floors. Really bad communication s****s, different people in charge, showroom changes in a miracolous garage in Brackenfell, my friend tried two times to visit! Now I am just waiting to get my deposit back, paid a lot on top to get the chaos they left, organised.

My advice:

The cheap offer is a catch most can´t resist. Unfair against any professional company around! For good service and experienced workmanship you have to pay more! That´s it!

Ask for references to look at (name , adress etc.) & showrooms to choose colours & if they are a registered, certified company with the Builders Association or similar!

I see a lot of "flooring companies" around, nice websites but just hot air behind! They are changing their names every now and than, phone no and adresses, and still get money in from people like me!!! All l just want to make fast and easy money without having the necessary s****s!

I can only recommend to report any bad experience to NHBRC. the more complaints the bigger the chance to finish off companies, who sell services they can not grant and therefore follow a fraudulent business scheme! I am still on this case and will follow up big time! Contact me if you like..

I had Topcrete screed my patio and front door. After a terrible job of laying the floor and getting the colour wrong they then refuse to come back and finish/ fix their mistake. Rudi the owner is definitely not a man of his word!
