Our family is extremely disappointed with the experience we have had at this hospital while my grandfather has been admitted following debridement surgery for necrotizing fasciitis. While we understand that public hospitals are busy and staff are under pressure, the level of care, communication, and basic accountability has been deeply concerning. During visiting hours on Wednesday between 3 and 4 pm, my grandfather’s mobile phone was last seen on his bedside cupboard. By later that evening it was gone, and despite asking multiple staff members across shifts, no one has been able to account for it or confirm when anyone entered the room. There is also very limited monitoring of access to the ward, which leaves vulnerable patients and their belongings unprotected. What has been equally upsetting is the attitude we have encountered when trying to raise concerns. Simple, respectful requests were met with dismissive and irritated responses, including being told that our family is keeping staff very busy. We are fully aware of the workload in a hospital setting and are not demanding special treatment, but basic respect and communication should still be expected. There are also ongoing concerns about his day to day care, including his urinary catheter bag being left to overfill and leak, leaving him uncomfortable, as well as repeated comments that he is difficult to care for when he is often confused post surgery. Overall, we are left feeling frustrated and unheard, and we sincerely hope that attention is given to both patient dignity and accountability moving forward.

The hospital really should fix its lifts. It's unacceptable that visitors should wait in long queues because most lifts are out of order! After all it is an academic hospital and currently not a credit to our city. Even the parking areas are derelict!!

My brother were taken to Tygerbeeg Hospital this morning on 13/05/25. Trey transfered him from HH to tygerberg. He is sitting in a chair no bed available. He is a man from 74 years. I think they should close that hospital down. It stinks and is filthy. Now is that what you call a hospital. Let me tell you no one makes any effort to better that hospital. South Africa should be ashamed causw Tygerberg Hospital were once Thee hosputal look at it now. What happened to the beds and linnen did that also got ****** by patients. Ive got absolutely nothing good to say about that hosputal. Tygerberg take your staff and go learn overseas what a hospital should look like and how they operate. You let people die you dont help them. And about Hottentors Holland Hospital i can tell them exactly the same thing. Youve got absolutely no knowledge to treat people. I think most of you just did a 3 month crash course. Nothing more no real education.

On the 12/03/2025, I was ADMITTED to A4 East where I was seen by an anesthesiologist who ordered an ECG, X-Rays and bloodwork. Then, during the Doctor's rounds, I was informed that the surgery, which was scheduled for the morning of the 13/03/2025, had been CANCELLED. Well, imagine my dismay. Nonetheless, both the ECG and the X-Rays were done. No blood was drawn because the nurse who attempted to draw blood does not have the required skill to drawn blood from deep-seated veins. Might I suggest additional training?? Sharlene Breuninger (Radiology) tried to contact the surgeon about the abrupt cancellation of the surgery but alas, nothing came to fruition. The surgeon did not return Sharlene's call. So, to conclude... I was admitted to Tygerberg A4 East on the 12/03/2025, was seen by the anesthesiologist, had an ECG and X-Rays, only to have the surgery RECKLESSLY CANCELLED because of an administrative issue. Someone in your Administration Department did not get 'authorisation'; whatever that means. Why was authorisation even required??? Is it because I am on a medical aid which does NOT cover this procedure??? Then, you have the audacity to bill me and hand my unpaid account over to VERICREDIT. You are gravely mistaken if you think that your actions will not be defended. How can you invoice me for tests or consultations or whatever it is, when the results of these tests were not even required because you CANCELLED the surgery.

My wife had a hart attack on 26 of December. Went to other hospital and rushed her to Tygerberg. They told her she is a high risk and need to go for a sigma(where they put die in bloodstream). 4 days later still no sigma because she is not a high risk anymore.

My issue start in February 2023 after I went to see my doctor on an issue of getting tired when walking short distance. He checked me out and send me to specialist that again send me to this hospital for further check ups. We started of in 2023, shortly after this with a supposed CT scan, that was rebooked 3 times, which is now my fault I must ad for not picking but was sitting in the que every time from 0630 the morning till between 1100 and 1200 for getting my file, every time hearing at Room 51, "you are late sir". I must mention of course that the pulmonologist and his team, Prof Allwood, did do a VQ scan prior to this struggle of CT scans and that this team is doing some good work with hands tide behind there backs with hospital admin and government issues. Getting back to the issue after 3rd CT cancellation, again seeing specialist with all the frustrations, I was told in July 2024, that my next CT scan can only be done in early 2025. I decided to get some money together, paid of the others that was left and get a CT scan from Netcare, Chris Barnard hospital and was done in 15min after arriving for appointment...must say you are *****ed if you don't have medical aid...and took this back to the hospital on CD form and thought that I can be helped at least with some meds, but was told make ready for a type of sonar to the chest to look for more clues. After this was done, again thinking some meds now at least, was told that it is a SEVERE issue and was send for a cather for the left and right side of the heart to see more details....and now I'm told after the 3rd going for a bed with excuses of no beds, machines broken and over locked system, that I must return a 4th time. I have heard this is one of the best hospitals in the country....don't want to experience the rest...
