I recently got married, and I have to just say that it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. As most of the advice that goes around says, “don’t expect things to go perfectly, things will go wrong, but just make of the most of it”. So that was something I was willing to deal with. However there are certain things that you cannot unfortunately let slide. I do feel that it is my responsibility to inform other possible clients about the misrepresentation and false advertising that does go around. In order to prevent what happened to me, to happen to others. The venue that I used for my Hurdhee and Sangeet night was Umhlanga Function Venue. Been the type A personality that I am, I had met with the owner of the venue prior to booking the place. Meetings before my event, even doing a run through about how the evening will progress. The night of my event, I was still running abit late. Luckily most of my guests had also been abit late given the bad weather. I had sent the owner a play list of songs that my sister had compiled so that the dj would know what to play. When we came back into the venue after doing a ritual outside, there was distasteful music been played. So my sisters asked the dj, what music this was from and if he could change it, as it wasn’t from the playlist she had sent. The owner then called me into her office, 5 minutes before I was meant to be on stage. To inform me that her DJ was upset, apparently my sister had spoken to him in a rude manner and he was going to leave my event, leaving me with no one to play music, and do sound. As I entered her office she points to my sister on a web camera screen. Asking “Who is this?”. As if this is a school and I am been reprimanded. I told her that was not how the conversation with the dj and my sister went. She did not know that I was with my sister when this conversation happened. The owner did not confirm her story before calling me in, during my event, when I am expected to be greeting my guests and to be on stage. Her Dj then went outside and started bad mouthing my sister while my guests were entering, while my event was going on. Something that the owner cannot “remember “ had occurred when I had asked her about it after my honeymoon. That was just the beginning of the poorly run, event venue. I cannot understand, that if you are meant to be running a venue for an event that people literally pay 10s of thousands of rands to use, how can you be so rude unprofessional and unapologetic. If you could imagine this scene, you as the bride sitting on stage. Trying to give instruction to your family to please check 1,2,3 things. Having that additional stress when the venue is retailed as “event coordination “. To name a few more issues I had with the venue and the management of it. - no drinks on the table when guests came in. - no starting platters on the table (my dad had to actually wake up and ask the kitchen to bring out things) - poor sound (music was too loud, could not hear the priest, priest mic was not working) -doing venue viewings with other clients, during my event. -posting pictures of my family on social media without permission after bad management of my event. #falseadvertising The list just goes on. The worse part was that I actually confronted the owner about this a couple months later. And then I got insulted even more with no apology what so ever. Apparently, “ I am the type of bride that doesn’t look at the 90% that went well, and focuses on the 10% that didn’t”? To which my response was, “Unfortunately I am. Because I used my Fathers had earned money to hire your venue. And I did expect that at the very least I wouldn’t leave my special day with my family been insulted”. Atleast it is the guests that make the event, and we had a wonderful enthusiastic crowd. So we made the most out of a bad situation. I would not recommend Umhlanga Function Venue to anyone.

After a year of going back and forth with the OWNER of UFV, They have paid 99% of my deposit in instalments. Although this was paid as an upfront deposit, I Was refunded in smaller instalments periodically. Understandably it was a challenging time for the Entertainment sector, so was it for the Individual that outlaid the cash and wasn't assured of getting this refunded. Hoping UFV gets back on their feet and have made good with all their other clients

<div>Last year before we went into level 5 lock down we made payment to The Umhlanga Function Venue for my night before my wedding. Since we went into lock down we were told we number 52 on the list to be refunded etc. I was even told where did I expect her to get rent and good money during that time hence she can’t refund me. I tried to find another solution. I asked her to cancel the event and provides deco to my wedding venue for that cost. Covid still need s around. I now had to under go a major operation and be put out of work for 6 weeks. I have asked her to please refund me a lil each month. Even R2000 as this will put good on the table. She refuses. There were far smaller businesses then hers that I paid d and when I asked for a refund it was given. This is purely business and they are sitting with some of my life savings. I have been in and out of hospital and yesterday under went a full hip replacement and I can’t work. This lady is more interested in telling me that she couldn’t send her son to university this year. I don’t owe her money it’s the other way around I paid for a service that I never obtained and now when I ask for even R2000 monthly I have to hear how hard she is finding it yet her venue is booked and people are have functions there. The first time I asked for a refund last year I was told how do I expect her to pay her rent and put food on her table during lockdown but they were buying brand new vehicles and telling me an obscene number in the line for a refund. This is business, I have saved my life saving to pay for these things only for her to be the one supplier out of everyone always ways making excuses to justify her lifestyle. She has a business, she has clients, people are booking the venue which she post about daily. How do you live with your self posting how many different things you are making for your family to eat yet you take my money and say you don’t make even 2k a month to give me towards what I paid.</div>
