WeDrill Africa managed by a guy called Jon Stephenson was not only installing incompetently a water purification system but also displayed highly unprofessional, dishonest and arrogant behaviour. A water purification system was installed running long delays without acceptable reason. The system had to further be correctly installed by another supplier at additional cost. This company does not know what they are doing, totally unqualified and incompetent.

Absolutely concur with all the reviews here. Jon Stephenson is a thief and fraudster who belongs in jail and I have lots of evidence of fraud and deceit if anyone wants to send him to jail. I was taken in the same was as many others here - reasonable quotation, appeared to be professional, good website and quick initial response. ONce the 60% deposit was paid the nightmare started. 1- Pain in Feb 2018 was promised installation end April 2018 or first week May and a site visit beforehand to help prepare 2- Never saw Jon again, when I would call he would say everything on track just dealing with City requirement to get drilling permission 3 - Spent thousands preparing the site - putting concrete down for the tanks and getting an electrical point put in 4 - Up until first week of May he was adamant on phone he would install on time 5 - Come first week of May he sends an email with excuses, sent to lots of clients simultaneously (based on the wording) offering a 5% discount for those who stuck with him or a full refund if you wanted one 6 - Assuming that he had incurred no costs yet so the money must be sitting in the account, and not being convinced by this behaviour to date, I cancelled 7 - Took a week to get hold of him to acknowledge my cancellation, but we would only ever do so verbally not in writing. At this point I started calling from my recorded work phone 8 - After two more weeks of queries he sent me a refund form to fill out for "VAT reasons". I filled it out and sent it in immediately. Was told verbally payment would be made within 2 days 9 - No payment forthcoming, continued to follow up, repeated promises to pay, always some excuse such as a) accounting issues b) payroll issues c) SARS audit issues d) change in bank account details causing havoc for clients. All of these were clearly lies aimed at buying time 10 - Gave him final notice to pay me by mid June or I would go to court and he said "oh you'll definitely have your money by then". 11 - No money came, went to lawyers, served summons (he told the sheriff he didn't know what the summons was for) 12 - Eventually was put on the court notice for early September and he had no defence so he settled with me and agreed to pay me in full in four equal installments and I agreed to waive interest and penalties but he had to pay my legal costs. He also had to sign personal surety. 13 - he made the first payment, thereafter didn't pay. I called him after the first skipped payment and he said "oh sorry, i got the date wrong, thought it was this friday. I'm finishing two jobs will pay it over immediately". Two months later not a cent more received. 14 - I got judgement against him in court on 29 November. Sheriff will be attaching his assets imminently. If there aren't any I'll take his personal asset until he's bankrup. For those affected by him or those thinking of doing business with him, you should know te following: 1 - This pattern in the reviews by people here is common, these are not aberrations 2 - We Drill Africa doesn't seem to drill itself, it looks like everything is outsourced. A friend of mine didn't cancel his borehole and they came four months after the cancellation offer while I was busy settling with Jon and the outsourced driller f*ed up his house with all the drilling to the extent that the house and the neighbours house both had cracks. His driveway totally destroyed 3 - He will extort you once he starts work, he will claim he put in extra piping or went deeper than originally quoted. This is all lies designed to get extra cash out of you. The borehole contractor at my friend's place told my friend they went down a LOT less than what was paid for. My friend eventually gave up on him, and forfeited R50k for a filtration system he paid for but never got. 4 - He/his firm is NOT a member of the Borehole Water Association of South Africa. Their membership was TERMINATED in September 2018. He still advertises this membership despite them asking him to stop. This alone is tantamount to fraud. 5 - He does not have public liability insurance. If he has come onto your property and made a representation that he has public liability insurance when he does not he has committed fraud. Report him criminally at the police station. I could write another ten pages of experience with this guy, but hte fact that Sea Point Primary, a public school, has had to take him to court (I don't know the outcome) should tell you enough.

This "company" should be avoided at all costs. I have lost count of how many excuses Jon (the so-called owner of We(don't)Drill) has proffered in the course of our engagement. We contacted him in November of 2017, accepted his quote (R110,000) and paid the hefty deposit of 60% for fear of losing our promised place in a "large" queue of clients. They were meant to start the installation in late February. In the following months we were given excuse after excuse as to why they couldn't start drilling. One of which was requisite legislation which requires and application to the City of Cape Town 14 days prior to installation of boreholes, which he didn't know about. Pathetic!! The installation eventually started at the end of August. The concept of client satisfaction is a non-entity with these guys, and the entire process was unpleasant and extremely messy. A little bit of forethought and planning could have negated a lot of the mess. We were left with a river of sludge pouring into the street over a weekend, when no drilling actually happened, and almost no access to our own property. Not a single damn was given by Jon at this point (who, it must be said at this point makes very few appearances on site during the drilling process). The clean-up was meant to start as soon as the drilling was complete, but it took another 3 days for them to even begin. The clean-up crew were pathetic, and again there was zero sympathy from Jon. I eventually had to arrange, privately, for a skip to be delivered so that the guys who did arrive to do the clean-up had somewhere to put the sludge, as this was seemingly beyond Jon's capabilities. My wife had to deal with the police and traffic department for a week, while the clean-up crew sporadically made appearances. At the end of the installation we received an additional invoice for steel piping, which wasn't on the original quote. We can't find any proof that this piping was even installed. The pump attached to our holding tank has blown because it was wired incorrectly by his 'electrician' and the pump from the borehole works only intermittently. I would strongly advise anyone reading this to steer well clear of this company, and Jon Stephenson in particular. ALL operations are outsourced and they are, in effect, a middle-man/consultancy business (with very little industry knowledge). They do not have pubic indemnity cover (we have found that out as well, unfortunately).

This business is a scam. I am in the process of taking judgement against them for an amount of R 116,531.47 for a borehole and filtration system that was supposed to be installed in March 2018. Needless to say I am still waiting. Summons was issued and he signed for it. No payment was forthcoming from him. We have already got a court date for Judgement against this business which he clearly thinks is a joke. He has since being issued with a summons contacted me telephonically telling me he is ready to come and drill now. Sorry your time has come and gone. Pay me back as you promised in more than one email. I was assured that he has 3 plumbing shops and to refund me would not be a problem. WELL I THINK IT IS NOW TIME TO SHOW WHAT YOU ARE MADE FROM. BY THE WAY YOU ARE ALSO LIABLE FOR ALL MY LEGAL FEES!!!!!!

I would like to inform/notify/complain about We Drill Africa that has defrauded Sea Point Primary School from R68'000 for a borehole that was never installed. On 20 November 2017 received a quote from We Group t/a We Drill for R113’346.78 for a borehole to be installed at Sea Point Primary School. On 6 December 2017 the school paid a deposit of R68’000 and received confirmation that installation would proceed on 29 January 2018. And on Monday 29 January – when they were supposed to start Drilling by 11 am - no one pitched! The owner did not respond to calls or sms'es... From the period 29 January until 21 March they could not offer the school a valid reason for not starting the job. All emails and texts were responded to with ‘in a meeting’ or ‘will call you back’… On the 22 March the school received an email apologizing for the delay and offered discounted rate or a full refund of the deposit if cancelled... By the 11th April the school formally cancelled the contract and demanded the return of the deposit of R68’000 which was acknowledged with a promise to pay within 7 working days. By 23 April 2018 We Drill Africa has ignored all calls and requests for the refund. The school was left with no other option to hand them over to our Lawyers for legal collection. What a terrible service they offer! It is such a disappointment that they operate in such an unethical way. The school has paid alot of money for a service that was NOT delivered! In my opinion any business that cannot deliver a service that they have been paid for should not be in business at all! Disclaimer: I, Sumayya Johaar, am reporting this in my personal capacity as a Member of the SGB of Sea Point Primary School. All views are my own and does not represent that of the School.
