Alamo Car Rental
Based on recent customer reviews, Alamo Car Rental faces significant criticism around billing disputes, unauthorized credit card deductions, and poor post-rental communication. Multiple customers report unexplained charges, overcharging, and unanswered emails and complaints. Vehicle quality concerns also arise, including worn brake pads and broken glass left in a vehicle. Staff friendliness at pickup is occasionally praised, but the experience deteriorates sharply at return and during dispute resolution. A small number of positive reviews highlight pleasant staff and smooth rental experiences, particularly at specific branches.

I booked a Group D vehicle through Discover Cars, fulfilled by Locauto (Alamo) at Milan Linate, Italy. At pick-up, I was handed an Opel Corsa — a Group C vehicle, a lower category than what I paid for. When I questioned this, staff looked me in the eye and told me it was the correct car for my booking. That was a lie. I signed nothing at pick-up. The only document I signed was at drop-off in Rome, presented to me as a vehicle condition report to confirm there was no damage. Locauto is now using this document — signed after the rental was already over, for a completely different stated purpose — as supposed proof that I accepted a vehicle downgrade. I never accepted a downgrade. I was never given the opportunity to. I called customer service during the rental and was told to raise it in Rome. In Rome I was told they couldn't help and to call customer service again. Customer service then sent a dismissive form letter claiming everything was done correctly. When I pushed back with the full facts, they cited their 40 years of experience and confirmed their refusal. This is a company that gave me a cheaper car than I paid for, **** to me about it, misrepresented what I was signing, ran me in circles, and then hid behind paperwork. I am now escalating to Discover Cars, the European Consumer Centre, the Italian Antitrust Authority (AGCM), and my credit card provider.

Been renting cars with Woodford hatfield for quite a while now, and they are the best, from kind staff offering great service to road worthy vehicles.

Really smooth five-week car hire in Durban. We got a large car, which was excellent, and had no issues leaving it back or on subsequent billing. The guys on the ground were super pleasant and helpful too. No complaints.

Worst customer service you v can get. Booked through their online Rentalcars.com and both of these companies were unwilling to help and just blamed the other for not helping to make a payment through my fiance credit card, because it she showed me to be the driver, even when we were asking then to add her as a driver aswell ,none of the two were willing to help and just blame the other one . We had to book a Uber at the end and was penalized with a 70% cancelling fee on our payment already made to hire the vehicle on booking.

I was sent a fine from Alamo, that included the fine amount as well as a “redirection fee” of R287.50. I had paid the fine prior to receiving this invoice from Alamo, as I was in the position of the original fine. I sent the proof of payment as well as the original fine, to which I received a response “thank you, noted”. A couple of days later, Alamo deducted the amount from my credit card, without authorisation. I emailed the individual who had said “thank you, noted”, who never bothered to reply. I then lodged a complaint on Alamo’s website, three weeks ago, and never received a response or any correspondence from Alamo. Disgusting service. Will never hire from them again.

I'm extremely disappointed with my recent experience with Alamo Car Rental. Despite returning the vehicle in good condition, they've deducted an additional R1300 without justification. The contrast in service was stark - the staff were friendly when I rented the car, but unhelpful when I returned it.

I booked a car and picked up from Lanseria on the 15th and returned the car 1 day later. Upon returning the vehicle, the guy said I am still early for the return. I was billed for a day extra despite this. When I received my invoice on the 17th June, I called in to get this fixed and it was not. I have now made numerous calls to both fix this and to get my holding deposit returned and this has been met with pathetic customer service.

I’m extremely dissatisfied with the service I received from Alamo. On June 14th, I rented a car from them in Johannesburg and drove to Mpumalanga. When I collected the vehicle, it was making a strange noise, but I assumed it would be fine. However, the noise worsened during the trip, and my uncle discovered that the brake pads were worn out. I contacted Alamo, and one of their representatives initially told me to drive the car back to Johannesburg. I expressed my concern about safety, and they later sent a representative with a replacement car. When swapping vehicles, I asked about the fuel arrangement since I always fill up the tank to avoid extra charges. The representative inspected both cars and said the fuel levels were similar, so I can filled up the replacement car to avoid extra charges. However, when i received the invoice, i was shocked to see a charge of R900 for petrol. I've emailed and called Alamo multiple times, asking about the charge, but it's been a week, and I haven't heard back. It's unacceptable that they provided a car with safety issues and now they're charging me for something that doesn't seem right.
