Based on recent customer reviews, Ampath Laboratories (Pty) Ltd faces severe and systemic customer experience failures across nearly every operational dimension. The overwhelming majority of feedback is deeply negative, with billing and account management issues dominating complaints. While a handful of individual staff members receive heartfelt praise, the business is consistently described as unresponsive, administratively incompetent, and difficult to engage with on financial matters.
Top Strengths:
- •Customer Service & Staff Quality: A small number of individually named staff such as Sr Marietjie, Shane Rathbone, and Agnes receive exceptional praise for empathy, competence, and going above expectations, standing out against a largely negative backdrop.

They Want Payment… But Won’t Say What For
Good day. Pardon if my email might sound a bit rude, but as i am typing I am trying to be civil. I recently undergone a hysterectomy so I am aware that a lot of blood was drawn and tested done etc. Why I am upset is that I did receive an invoice for almost R6000 - which if my medical aid do not pay I will have to pay it. But the terminology on the invoice was unclear to me. I asked for a description of what test it was and the response i received blew my mind. I must ask my dr to explain? Really? Why the hell must I pay my gynecologist R2000 for a consultation to just to get a description of what type of test was done? I know she explained there will be tests done for blood count, sugar, rabies, Herpes, hepatitis, mad ***, cancer whatever is needed. I do not need a detailed description on why - I want to know what? If it's something deadly or cancerous my gynae will eventually call me. And if it was something like cancer, I would have heard from her by now, it's been 2 weeks since the test was done. I just want to know what histology block per sample means. Refer to invoice No.: WXZ34427 . Lancet invoices shows blood count or cholesterol or what ever. If i need to pay for something I need to know at least what test was performed.

AMPATH desparate
Received service on 25/02/2026 Paid for the service on my CREDIT CARD at 05:06 in the morning. On 2026/03/18, I received a final demand from AMPATH that the account is due. This is the payment that was made on the day of the service. Today, 2026/03/19, I received my medical aid statement. Only to notice that AMPATH has submitted this account to my medical aid for payment. Payment for the same account was actioned by my medical aid at the beginning of March 2026. Is it necessary for Ampath to be paid twice for the same service, and then issue a demand for additional payment? When I spoke to AMPATH HO, their excuses they have technical issues - that is not acceptable, claiming funds 3 times.

Vericred *****sters
Currently having an issue with ampath and vericred solutions. Got billed by ampath for around R237.00. Ampath handed me over to Vericred. I settled the Ampath account. My account was settled bit I still received sms's from vericred. They managed to get through to me and said that I owe vericred money. R254.10 even after settling the bill. More than what I owed Ampath. They kept saying that I owe them interest and service fees since they kept trying to call me and send me messages. A company I never dealt with before, I now owe them money. Ampath should've rather told me to pay vericred instead of them directly that way I wouldn't have to pay twice. Has anyone else dealt with this? How can I pay someone that I never had any dealings with? Is this even legal? Ref: 10001114966055.

Ampath collusion with Vericred
Have experienced very disappointing service from Ampath. Have engaged with them on an outstanding balance of R 280 (of a R 4000 bill). While in contact to resolve with medical aid, my account was handed over to Vericred. It does seem that there is collusion between the two. The haste with which this was done suggests some degree of collusion. Am now sitting with a bill of around R 142 from Vericred, even after payment to Ampath- more than 50% of the balance. I have tried in vain to get to speak to Dan Tshwane from Ampath without success. No one should be treated in his manner. Disappointing Ampath!!!!..you should be able to do better.

Poor Refunds service
I have not had a good experience with the refund department. First of all, I didn't know there was a credit. I suspected it and called them on the 16 of February 2026. They were very helpful, sent me the forms and I completed the forms and sent it that same day. I assumed everything was in order until I received a call on the 20th of February 2026. They said I didn't send a POP which I did and he had to ask his supervisor and managers approval. He said that he would call back if there were any issues, and I didn't receive a call so I assumed that everything was in order. On the 2nd of March 2026, I just sent a follow-up email with no reply until today the 5th of March 2026. So yesterday, the 4th of March I called again and the person, I believe his name was Collen assisted me. He was very helpful and polite, my issue isn't with him. I asked him what the progress was and he said it's still with the Supervisor and Manager for approval. That was the feedback I got on the 20th of February 2026. So nothing has happened in 2 weeks' time. No calls, no emails, just nothing. So it leaves me to think that they were just never going to solve this. How can they go against their own policy with regards to payments of refunds. I'm not happy and would rather go to Lancet next time. Very poor service.

Agnes is a Star and An exceptional agent!!!
I would like to give a huge compliment to Agnes in the call Centre. Your empathy and kindness in dealing with a claim that was incorrectly rejected was outstanding to say the least. I hope the rest of the call center can learn from how to handle client's because we do not call freely willy, its because the case needs a resolution. So I appreciate your follow-ups and feedback.
