Thank you so much to Dr Philip and the entire Ballito Vet hospital team for treating my girl when no one else would. After visiting multiple vets in Chatsworth, none could figure out what was wrong with her, and some refused to help simply because she is a Pitbull and was showing signs of aggression due to being very sick. I was especially disappointed after going to the well-known Westville vet hospital where the doctor was too scared to treat her and didn’t give her the care she needed and refused to admit her although it was an emergency Ballito Vet was completely different. Within 15 minutes or so , they recognised the signs and knew exactly what was wrong. Even though she was abit aggressive because of the pain she was in, they handled her with such professionalism, patience, and care. She was taken straight to emergency, and everything went smoothly. The very next day, we received a call to say we could fetch her. When we saw her, she was still in pain, but she had her spark back—she was herself again. That moment meant everything to us. I am beyond grateful to Ballito Vet Hospital for saving my girl and treating her with compassion and dignity. I will continue to travel the distance to bring her here because she deserves the best care possible. It truly shows that this team love animals and care deeply about what they do. Thank you once again for saving my girl. I will always recommend Ballito Vet Hospital

I took my Great Dane to be examined for a swelling in her ear. After consultation with Dr. Stevens, I agreed to the recommended procedure. When I collected her, I was concerned to see that she was struggling to walk and appeared to be in significant discomfort. Initially, I assumed it was post-operative pain and the effects of anaesthetic. However, by the following day her condition had worsened. I returned to the vet seeking clarity. At first, I was told that nothing out of the ordinary had occurred. Later, I was informed that she had fallen off the examination table and reacted defensively when staff attempted to handle her. In my personal experience with her, she had never shown signs of aggression, and I believe her response could have been related to pain and confusion following sedation. As I was still concerned for her wellbeing, I took her to a sports vet in Ballito for further treatment. They provided excellent care and assisted in getting her mobility back, but at a considerable cost to me. 2. Emergency C-Section on another dog On a separate occasion, I took another one of my dogs in for an emergency C-section late at night. A few hours into the procedure, I received a call asking whether I wanted her spayed. I said “definitely not.” I found it unusual that this question was asked mid-procedure, but I trusted that everything was being handled appropriately. Months later, she came into season but did not fall pregnant. This happened twice. I decided to have her spayed at the new veterinary practice I had moved to. Before the operation, I asked them to check whether there was a medical reason she had been unable to conceive. Their findings suggested that during the original C-section, part of the uterine horn had been inadvertently stitched in a way that would have prevented pregnancy. As a result, I unfortunately had to retire her as a breeding dog. 3. Billing dispute and lack of communication After these two experiences, I communicated my concerns directly to the Ballito Vet Hospital and explained why I felt unable to pay the outstanding account. Despite this, I did not receive any reduced bill, payment arrangement, follow-up communication, or any legal notice informing me of further action. I only recently discovered — nearly four years later — that a judgment had been placed against my name. I did not receive a statement, email, letter, or legal notice advising me that this would happen. 4. My intention in sharing this I want to be clear that I am sharing my personal experience as a client, and the impact these events had on my animals, my finances, and my credit record. My intention is not to damage anyone’s reputation, but rather to explain why I chose not to settle the account and why I feel the process was not handled transparently. Since then, I have heard similar concerns from other pet owners, which has reinforced my own feelings. As a pet owner, it is important to me that others are aware of my experience so that they can make informed choices about the care of their animals.

My experience has also lead to the death of my beloved pet. It was a Monday and my *** was not eating and was not himself. He just slept the whole day. The next day, I took him to Ballito Vet and they advised that he had a virus that was "going around" and gave him an injection and some tablets. The next day he seemed fine but by Friday, he was showing the same symptoms. I took him back on Sunday and they advised he had relapsed. Another injection! When I took him home, he could not get out of the car and just slept in the car for a few hours. Over the next week he seemed fine until he displayed the same symptoms. I took him to Westville vet. Within an hour my them doing tests and x rays/scan on him, they advised he had cancer . At that point they could not determine the extent and said they had to do more scans and wait for the specialist to come in the next day. At 11:30 on a Tuesday, I got a call for the vet to ask me to come in urgently. I was told that the lumps on his stomach had burst and the cancer had spread and it was too late to contain it etc. Chemo was a suggestion but the stress, pain and suffering my pet would have endured, would not have been something I could put him through. This is something I live with everyday - wondering if Ballito Vet took the time to examine and do x rays on him, and not just dismiss my concerns by saying " its a relapse" , probably my pet would have had a chance and still be alive today.

Let me start off by saying that I did a review on the vets blog 9 weeks ago, and they have yet to publish my review, so I believe I have given them enough time to put my review up. I'm guessing they have no excuses, and they don't like to make apologies, so instead, they chose to ignore me. Here is the review I gave them : The reason for my one star rating will be revealed shortly, but first I would like to address the unprofessional way in which your clients bad reviews are responded to. I have been reading through some of the reviews and I have noticed a pattern. The vets inability to take accountability. Even if I have had nothing but good experiences with this vet, just reading the responses would be enough for me to lose all respect for Ballito Vet. Every client who gives a bad review is met with nothing but hateful, hurtful comments in an attempt to deflect from the issue at hand, so that the client gets blamed for everything that has gone wrong, while also accusing the client of neglecting their pets. So, let's talk about neglect for a minute shall we, and the reason for my one star rating. My husky was not eating, her stomach was bloated and we noticed that she wasn't passing a stool, so we made an appointment and brought her in. She was diagnosed with constipation without any tests being done, and we were told that her elevated heartbeat was normal for a constipated dog. After two injections and being sent home with Laxapet, we followed the vets instructions and gave her the medication. However, the medication was not working, and by Sunday morning she still hadn't eaten and was unable to stand on her own. Because it was a Sunday and the vet has no emergency vets available, we drove her through to Ashburne Vet in Durban North, where they proceeded to do every test imaginable, including x-rays on her stomach and chest, because unlike Ballito Vet, he was concerned about her elevated heartbeat. After waiting 30 minutes, they called us in to inform us that she was NOT constipated, and that she, in fact, not only had a massive build up of gas inside her, but they also discovered that she had internal bleeding in her stomach, as well as an enlarged heart and a heart tumour. They told us that they would keep her overnight, and would send her through to Inanda Vet in the morning, as they had a team of specialists who could take a look at her and decide what would be best for her going forward. Unfortunately, we got a call on Monday morning, to inform us that she had passed away at 4am. Now, I'm not saying that if Ballito Vet had done x-rays and the full testing that Ashburne Vet had done, that my husky would still be alive, by no stretch of the imagination. However, if Ballito Vet HAD done the testing that the other vet did, then perhaps we would have been given an actual answer to the problem, instead of wasting time with medication, treating her for the wrong thing. Talk about a misdiagnosis. But who knows, maybe if we had caught the problem in time, she could very well have been alive today with the correct diagnosis and appropriate medications. Guess we will never know. I was expecting a disgusting response from the vet to negate my rating in an attempt to turn the truth around to fit their narrative. I was expecting a tongue lashing from them, calling me a "rating loser, who wants to feel important", which seems to be their go-to insult to their clients, so that people reading this wouldn't think twice about taking their beloved pets to them. But instead, they chose to ignore my review and not publish it. As I said above, the vets inability to take accountability. However, I decided that I would NOT let the threat if verbal abuse from them stop me from giving my honest review.

The worst experience ever! I took my African grey in for treatment and was told he had a Vitamin A deficiency. They did no tests on him and just diagnosed him by looking at him!! He was given injections without proper explanation and sent home, unfortunately he relapsed and we had to take him back, yet again doctors just looked at him and decided to keep him. The sad part is they don't explain why and what's the reason for treatment, they do not communicate and this causes stress on pet owners. My loving pet came back home and was fine for a few days but his condition worsened, we decided to take him back for the third time and it was only during this time they decided to take further action and do an x ray. 15 minutes after the x ray he was declared dead... the doctor (Dr Brown) did not explain how and what may have caused his death. What is upsetting is that Dr brown only mentioned after he passed on that x rays are harsh on birds and they had a previous experience like this. Despite her knowing this she never made us aware only after he passed on were we told. The most heartbreaking part is that they had handed his body in tissue paper ,which they use to wipe their hands!!!!!!. Never would I imagine how heartless a vet could be as well as unprofessional. His illness should have been treated sooner if they took the necessary action in the beginning. PLEASE BE AWARE PET OWNERS DON'T TAKE YOUR BIRDS , THIS IS NOT A VET THAT TREATS THEM.
