BERTHA,s Simons Town We , as a family of 6, have visited Bertha’s twice in the last 60 days Once for breakfast and once for early dinner On both occasions the service was slow and sloppy. There were too few waiters for the number diners The dirty plates from previous guest meals on the table next to us remained uncleared for the entire duration of our dinner. There were some 31 diners and 3 waiters !!! On the breakfast occasion I forced the waiter to sweep under the tables around us because it was so untidy and dirty On both occasions I had to go into the kitchen to find the waiters to get follow up service The food proportions for the same meals were disproportionate . When queried the response was they would charge extra for a servicing that matched the other plates The quality of the food was inferior and tasteless The management are MIA and cannot be engaged to express dissatisfaction I am bewildered at the reviews read on the web and Tripadvisor Clearly the international guests are getting abused but for the exchange rate benefit and beautiful views The best advice for the restaurant “ dismiss all ; spring clean; re-do the menu; train your staff; and employ adequate number of serving staff ” Frankly it is embarrassing as a tourist destination I will be surprised if the restaurant survives a further year Grumpy
