Dear Bootleggers Team,
On Monday, my two colleagues and I visited the Kenilworth branch and purchased three slices of chocolate cake — something we’ve done many times before, as Bootleggers is usually our go-to for quality and consistency. Unfortunately, this time was quite the opposite.
After returning to the office, we discovered that all three slices tasted noticeably stale, dry, and hard — certainly not the standard we’ve come to expect (especially at R67 per slice). We couldn’t even finish them and ended up throwing most away, which felt rather wasteful considering that, for that price, we could almost have purchased an entire cake elsewhere.
We called and spoke to the manager, Mr. Van der Merwe, who was polite and assured us that once the new cake arrived on Wednesday, he would call to let us know we could collect fresh slices as an apology for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, Wednesday came and went without a single call or update.
To make matters worse, when we followed up, we were told that only two slices could be replaced, even though three stale slices were purchased from the same cake. That logic was… interesting, to say the least.
It’s quite disappointing, as Bootleggers has always been known for great quality and service. Sadly, this experience didn’t reflect either.
