"Peter Dorfer, one of the partners at Carrera Motors you can trust. It is Franz Stangl who I advise you to be very, very careful of. I took my Porsche 356B in for an oil leak issue, for Peter Dorfer to look at and rectify. But Franz Stangl took over the job as apparently his workshop that handles the newer Porsche's had very little work and he needed the work. They drove the car and then reported the syncro on first had mysteriously broken ( it was OK when I took the car in!). I was told that spares would cost around R40k which I authorised. I repeated asked Mr Stangl for estimates of labour costs which he refused to give me. At first he had said he couldn't give me even an approximate figure. Adding he doesn't give quotes/estimates and it's not usual to do so on old cars. I told him several times I have a few old vintage and classic cars and that any workshop that works on them always gives an estimate for parts and labour. And also calls/emails for permission to go-ahead. They also up-date me on any issues the might come across that need attention and therefore more money and ask for my approval to continue the repairs. without any phone calls or emails I was finally handed an invoice for R78,000.00 !!!! This included outwork- the machining of the gearbox ( which they never sought authorisation for, just like all the other labour costs) and a complete set of new brake pipes ( which again they did not seek authorisation for). Since then we have met with Mr Stangl and his story changes from minute to minute...now he actually admits he could have given a quote for the labour, but only when he sat down!!!!"

I recently enquired about a classic Porsche for sale by this establishment. The web-site is absolutely archaic with no description or detailed photographs of the vehicles for sale, so submitted an e-mail request (via provided portal) for more information. After two weeks of not receiving any response, I ventured a call and was "greeted" by a person who barked at me "what I wanted" in broken English. Highlighting my needs, I was then passed to a Mr Dorfer, who mid-way through my introduction abruptly handed me onto another lackadaisical individual that clearly wanted to engage in matters alternative to imparting information related to a R2million classic Porsche. Needless to say that I made the decision to end my misery at this juncture. How these guys are able to make a living from "mis-representing" the integrity of classic Porsches, is beyond me. Visits to the Proctologist will in future be decidedly more pleasant, as I can use the Carrera Motors experience as an ongoing reference. so, if you're in the market for a classic Porsche, ignore these troglodytes and rather contact Crossley & Webb in Cape Town as these guys get that the purchase experience is as important as the vehicle itself. AVOID CARRERA MOTORS AT ALL COST!

Took my project car to Carrera motors Randburg to diagnose an electronic problem. Problem ended up behing a loose terninal and plug. To a s****ed technician that should be a very quick diagnosis and fix. But in the Carrera motors Randburg business model you pay top dollar for fumbling, an incredible 8 hours labour charged.

Would be far better of going directly to the dealers. Use them at your peril.

Took my project car to Carrera Motors to diagnose an electronic problem preventing starting. The problem ended up being a loose terminal on the power distribution, and a loose plug on the ignition. they also topped up power steering fluid and swopped two small pipes on the oil cooler.

The price? Almost R8 000. Yes, 8 hours labour. Charging top dollar for their fumbling over the diagnosis. Interesting usiness model. You pay a top professional rate and would expect a s****ed specialist. had a gone direct to the agents, I am confident the bill would have been less than a third of this.

Obviously very disappointed I approached the dealership with a complaint, genuinely feeling exploited. They were owever non-negotiable and completely inflexible.

My advise to Porsche owners. Steer clear. Go to M&R for an ethical, cost effective alternative, or diectly to the dealer.
