Be careful when coming into South Africa international airports! They are after anything just to exert power over you . Look poor and don’t have large suitcases. If they stop you , they will waste 2 hours of your time ! And charge you if they can . Will ruin all the effects of a good holiday wherever you have returned from and after 19 hours of flying .

Is there ANYBODY that can do anything about Customs Johannesburg. Parcels that took 10 days from China to Johannesburg, are lying in Johannesburg for months. There is no response from customs. Now the supplier does not want to ship to SA anymore. As he says, everything goes smoothly until the shipment reaches SA, then the shipment disappears. The supplier is then responsible for a credit. Please someone, do something. There are Christmas presents lying in Customs since October. This can not go on!

Customs clearly try and milk each import not only for the applicable hefty import duty, but also canive with port authorities to underhanded delay and Levy as many additional costs as possible. Our company imported an artificial turf container and were automatically flagged as per usual for inspection. Inspection took 17 days to perform and we were levied with demurrage costs and inspection fees. Then the container was placed under Embargo after inspection as they apparently did not have the neccesary expertise on hand to authorize inspection. This is just a ploy to play rope a dope and string you along for another opportunity to squeeze you for a bribe with the threat of more penalties looming. We preempted all of this happening and have cctv footage of 3 customs audit officers doing exactly that. We failed to pay the bribe, so are now waiting to see what further penalties will fraudulently be levied to us to release the Embargo order, so we are able to sell our stock that is sitting in our warehouse. Trying to find a person to deal with there with complaints is impossible, which leads us to believe the entire organization is crooked and not only the odd individual.

I received a sample from China ( a tiny bracelet) with a value of 1$, it lay in customs for over 2 months and I was charged R30 to fetch it from the Post Office. Totally f..king disgusting!

In 2015 I was sent a parc with a soccer kit bought in Barcekona with my name printed on it. When I collected the parcel it had been torn open and the hole taped up. Inside were the socks of the kit, but without the Jersey and shorts. I reported this to the Post Office the correct way and supplied photographs of the damaged parcel and stolen goods. Nothing ever happened. On 27 August 2020 I was sent another parcel from South Korea, this time containing nothing valuable. It arrived in South Africa on 28 October but has STILL not arrived at the post office. I have called the Post Office on 0860 111 502 as well as Customs on 0800 00 7277, nobody answers either after 15 minutes of waiting. I also ordered some clothing from the Netherlands on 11 Jan and STILL have not recieved the parcel.

I work for a company that is a big supplier to the South African food, beverage and pharmaceutical manufacturing industry. We have a consignment at O.R Tambo International Airport waiting for clearance from customs for almost 3 days now. Some of our customers have had to stop production and send staff home due to us not being able to supply them with the products needed to run production. As an end result our company has taken a huge knock and loss and might have to close due to the pathetic service time from customs as they are completely useless. We have contacted everyone we possibly could for assistance and tried every avenue but with no success. Thanks customs for being the useless service provider you are for i will most likely be without a job soon and my fellow employees .
