I had the most horrible first time gynecologist experience. Would not recommend her at all. I felt intense pain during the examination to the point where I started screaming and she didn't do anything to ease the discomfort or explain anything. I was in so much pain that the examination couldn't be completed. She seemed annoyed if anything else. Once we were back in her office and I had some questions she was dismissive and condescending. My husband asked why I would be experiencing such pain and her response was "some people are just afraid of doctors". I also asked her which supplements I should take and she said "you can get anything on the shelf" I was embarrassed and traumatised afterwards and had to make sense of the entire experience all by myself on the way home on the Internet and came to the conclusion that I should probably see a pelvic floor specialist. She also makes you sign a whole bunch of documents before you even go in to protect herself from you "complaining on social media". She has zero bedside manner and by the looks of it picks and chooses who she will treat nicely. The ladies in the front office were also gossiping about one of her currently admitted patients. The entire practice lacks compassion, kindness and professionalism.

PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS FEMALE. SHE SHOULD HONESTLY JUST DROP OUT OF PRACTISE COMPELTELY. Just pathetic, there's no better word to sum her up. She shouldn't be dealing with people at all. Her attitude is unacceptable and so are her unwarranted sarcastic comments. Her website falsely represents her as a caring, involved and professional expert with Christian values when she is not any of that. My husband and I went to her as she was the only one with the soonest opening after being referred by ER Doctors to see a Gynaecologist ASAP. Walking into her consultation room, I introduced myself and my husband to her and asked should we sit? She responded with "If you want to". She continued by asking why I didn't want to add my husbands details to the file and commented "oh, it looks like she wants to exclude you". After I explained to her the reason for being there and that I was at very early pregnancy stage; 6 weeks, she continued to asked what I do as a profession and then turned to my husband asking him "Are you Afrikaans?" and when he answered yes she turned to him all chatty and smiling and spoke to him in Afrikaans. He responded in English out of respect for me which she clearly showed disdain to. She barely gave me time to get undressed and told me "put on the gown". I had to ask her where the gown is, as its my first time there. I also had to ask her to just hold on as I wasn't ready yet. The first scan of our baby, was done in less than 2 minutes, she failed to explain anything to me saying "it looks like a blur to you but I know what I'm looking at" and then she brushed over the pain I was experiencing and was referred for. She further commented "This is your surname, did you not change it." Which in fact is none of her business but I explained that I was only married 3 months and hadn't done the necessary changes everywhere yet to which she pulled an ugly looking face. She then took a copy of the scan and threw it on the desk to my husband and said "there's your baby". She pulled out a booklet and rushed through what is required throughout the pregnancy and said to sign to agree to do this. After telling her I cant sign, I haven't even had a chance to look at anything yet; she said it's insurance for her to cover herself to state she's explained everything to me and that I can do it or not if I don't want to but she needs me to sign to say she's told me what's what. After walking to the receptionist to pay for the consultation, Janine walks out, with other patients in the waiting area, and briefs the receptionist out aloud about the outcome of the consultation with me. This is a breach of privacy and completely unprofessional. As newly weds, and our first appointment for our first baby this was not the experience or treatment we expected from someone who calls themselves a professional. But in spite of all this, we are confident that we will find a fitting Gynaecologist and we are so excited for our journey ahead. We wont allow this woman's personal misery to rub off on us.

I had a disappointing experience with Dr. Janine Potgieter and would not recommend her to others. During my appointment, I sought advice from Dr. Potgieter regarding contraceptives, as I was uncertain about whether to use them or not. I had a negative experience with birth control pills in the past, which made me hesitant to try any form of contraception. My intention was to seek guidance and reliable medical information. However, Dr. Potgieter recommended a contraceptive similar to a Mirena, (Kyleena). I expressed my concerns about IUDs, as I had heard negative comments about their potential pain and severe side effects from other women. Unfortunately, Dr. Potgieter’s response lacked helpfulness or information. She simply stated, "It is painful, I don't know what else to tell you, I've had it done 3 times before." She failed to explain the pros, cons, or even the procedure of an IUD. Furthermore, I shared my symptoms related to an irregular cycle, and Dr. Potgieter suggested that I might have PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). She brushed it off as easily treatable and a common condition affecting 10% of women, assuring me that getting pregnant wouldn't be a problem. However, she didn't provide a thorough explanation of PCOS, its impact on lifestyle, and fertility. As a young woman, hearing about the possibility of fertility issues is distressing, and her delivery felt insensitive. The most uncomfortable part of the appointment occurred when I was asked to undress for a pap smear and a general exam. Dr. Potgieter remained in the room and watched as I undressed, even making comments about my body. When I stated that I was recently on holiday, she said that I couldn't enjoy a relaxing holiday if I had children. When I requested a gown, she responded dismissively, saying, "You can get one, but I'm going to see everything anyway." Feeling judged, I quickly got onto the bed, and she proceeded with the examination. In all my previous gynecological appointments, the doctor has always provided a gown and respected my privacy. I found the lack of privacy and the judgmental atmosphere highly uncomfortable. To add to the unpleasant experience, Dr. Potgieter wrote me a prescription for Ovaria and handed me a piece of printed paper that served as the product's information. She simply said, "Take this if you want to," without providing any explanation about the product. Leaving the appointment, I felt overwhelmed and deeply uncomfortable. I spent the entire day in tears, feeling disrespected and violated. I had to conduct my own research on PCOS, PCOS supplements, infertility, and IUDs, as Dr. Potgieter failed to provide adequate information. I was initially hesitant to write this review due to Dr. Potgieter’s responses to other negative reviews. However, I felt compelled to share my experience to prevent other young women from going through a similar ordeal. Dr. Potgieter belittled me, made me feel foolish for not wanting contraceptives, and degraded the idea of having children during the appointment. She lacked sensitivity and failed to provide any substantial information. Needless to say, I will not be returning to her practice. Update: I received my blood test results back from Dr Potgieter via email, it stated: “Hallo Jade, Janine rep****: Thyroid is normal. PCOS can be seen on bloods< LH is higher than the FSH value.” This is the worst medical email I have ever received from a doctor. I don’t know what LH or FSH stands for, again, I had to Google and do my own research. The results weren’t even shared with me so I don’t know what the levels are exactly. I didn’t even receive a phone call or any sort of explanation. I received bad news via email and have no solution or no information on how to proceed. Are the levels extremely high? Is this something to be concerned about? What do I do now? I am terribly annoyed and feel that I have been wronged by this doctor throughout this whole process.

I would never recommend this so-called Dr to any woman who is concerned/in a fragile state with their femininity. During my appointment, I explained my concerns to the 'Dr'. We went on to do a pap smear, I got emotional and the 'Dr.' asked me: Why are you crying, it's not like I am raping you.' I was extremely shocked at her rude, VERY unprofessional response. It actually affected my trust in doctors for a long time. It is disgusting that a person promotes themselves to be so kind and caring and has the nerve to speak to clients (that pay a lot) in this manner. Hypocrite. She never apologised.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY, time or energy going to this gynae! She is terribly unprofessional, rude and has NO TACT! She even talks about her patients to other patients (borderline gossips actually) and has zero restraint! I am not 1 to complain but this is NOT ACCEPTABLE behaviour from a medical professional!

Very very rude! I walked out in tears!!! So my hubby and I was super excited to go for our first scan after trying for two years and finally got pregnant. At reception the lady said my husband can’t enter. So I asked if I can at least record a video for him as he wants te be part in this. And she said NO! So we said thank you we will then have to get another doctor. She said your welcome to get another doctor. But my husband said maybe we should just do this first appointment here to see that everything is fine. I went in and said ok we will keep this appointment and just get another doctor after this and she responded VERY rude “oh now we are good enough, you can always get another doctor” so I said with that rude attitude i think its best not to be here. I left in tears! I have never met someone so rude for no reason! I was friendly and and very calm but the lady is so rude! I definitely will not suggest this doctor if you want a stress free pregnancy! I called another doctor in tears and the squeezed me in for my app a view days later. The receptionist there was amazing and said sorry I went through that. My husband is welcome to come with for my appointments! I like mean if its your first pregnancy you want to share it with your husband and you are emotional there is no need for a rude doctor and receptionist. You have to trust them with your life as well as the life of your child!

Dr Janine Potgieter is 'n Uitsteekende dokter!!

Dr Janine is truly THE BEST Doctor on this planet! She is such an amazing woman, full of passion for what she does. When you look her in the eye, you can see she is such a hardworking woman with a major passion for what she does. I walked into her office at 5 weeks pregnant and she was just the perfect doctor for me. She delivered my baby boy and helped me go through every second of labour. She was by my side encouraging me and telling me what a great job I am doing. Dr Janine, you made my labour experience (even in the middle of Covid), the best labour experience ever. To Louis and Erika, you two are sooo sweet, you made my day every time I walked into the office! See you for baby #2!
