I was admitted to yesterday 21.10.2025 for a procedure and I want to highlight the issues once again with this hospital. From admissions, one of the patients even made a comment on the unfriendly and morbid faces that greeted us at the admissions desk. People arrive for procedures that are going to change their lives and that are going to have recovery times and pain. Why do the staff have to be so miserable. The porter, I had a large bag as did one of the other old ladies, he walked around like a supervisor to the patients, why call him a porter if he will not even offer to carry a bag for anyone? The elevator had catering carts in it and staff were not worried about squashing patients into the elevator instead of waiting for another one. Short stay - This ward was great, the nurses were helpful and smiling and chatty, they made jokes and made us all feel a little better. They followed us to Pre op where the ladies there were also amazing. That is sadly where it ended. Post op, I am wheeled into Surgical ward A, unable to get up or move. I had to wait for my husband to come and help me get items from my bag as the nurses came across as uninterested. The one day nurse I asked to help with my blanket I had bought from home and she threw it across my stomach where I had just had a hysterectomy. She was rough, abrupt and looked like she was ready to walk out. From blood pressure to temperature checking everything was forceful and rough. She had to wrap my legs in the compression bags to stimulate my muscles and avoid thrombosis and blood clots, these were strapped on and when I told her one was not working she grunted and left. One of the other patients in the ward came over to help me and got the pump working, a patient??!!! I have nothing nice to say about the food, I tried but I am assuming they have changed companies to save money, the food is awful and the staff that deliver it seem to also be miserable. In the late evening I asked for a juice and that never arrived. In the evening one of the pumps stopped working again on the compress bags, the young nurse did not look like she knew what these were or how they worked. My remote I had my headphones plugged into as I was watching a movie, was taken to a change a TV in another room and our tables and chairs were also taken away. When breakfast came I had no tray table and the other patient offered me hers as I had only just started moving around. In the morning, when my catheter was removed, I had to clean all the soiled bed sheets and pads myself considering I had not moved since the day before from my surgery and now I have to bend and reach and pull to get my bed made. I asked for Five roses from one of the ladies in white, I got Roiboos and when I told one of the ladies in the blue and green she looked at me and shrugged....... new staff she said. No replacement, no apology. I received my discharge papers with no rating paper as we usually get that gets handed to the hospital (or should) The lady who helped me to my car was amazing, patient and helpful. This is definitely going to be my last visit to this hospital. The recent push on social media made me feel confident in the changes but clearly it is only for the press and behind the scenes it just goes back to substandard service. The bathroom in room 8A is disgusting with the warped walls and peeling paint, why add onto the hospital when the original wards are neglected and shoddy. There is a substantial leak in the hall way going from Short stay to Pre op, no one has even bothered to try clean it up. I hope patients tak eheed of this and chose another hospital as health care is not something that can have so many wrongs.

My quadruple heart bypass was undertaken at Busamed Hillcrest hospital on the16/09/25.From my porter who also helped me in my discharge was exceptional. Icu nurses care and eye for details exceptional. The ones who took care of me,were absolutely brilliant, followed Dr.Gwila instructions 100%. I noticed cleaning and caterering staff fulfilling their duties with all diligence. Will recommend anyone with heart surgery to make use of this facility. The cardiologist team under Dr Sanjay Maharaj were of the highest standard. I was absolutely content in their hands. The cardiac thoracic surgeons Dr Thaha Gwila(from JJ&J surgeons) blew my mind,by his indept details of the entire bypass process from start of process to even post operations care.By this time I was completely satisfied that I am in absolutely good hands.Around Dr Gwila assisted by Dr Jehron Pillay and their hand picked team, further entrenched my confidence in this surgery. My recovery under this team and icu nurses leaves me almost speechless. Well done to them all. Highly, Highly recommend this entire team. Another phase of my recovery was getting physio twice daily by Sameera and Caeleb. These young girls unashamedly dressed me and with all those gadgets connected to me proceeded with physio the very next, till I was discharged. Absolutely caring, knowledgeable in their profession. 100% to them. Now that I am at home recovering, I see all the goodness of great professional care that is still available and more especially at this hospital. Lastly a heartfull of thanks to you all. Keep up with your professionalism we need it more than you can imagine.

My son was discharged from Hillcrest Private Hospital, there is a shortfall which i need to claim from my Gap cover. I was told the Hospital account takes 14 working days to send out. Today has been the 17th day and I've still not received it. Jemima said she would escalate to billing today ,I asked for urgent feedback today and haven't received any. Absolutely pathetic. Is Hillcrest Hospital going to pay my shortfall on my specialist account in the mean time? Pathetic

I had an Arthroscopy, done on the 3rd April 2025, and I would like to take this opportunity to give my view on Hillcrest Private Hospital. From the moment I walked in the service as stunning, the staff were very helpful in every regard, The Nursing staff in Surgical One ward were absolutely stunning their communication and manners were impeccable all the time. I was watching the cleaning lady who cleaned the Private ward and she was so thorough in her method of cleaning whilst still not being slow. I have heard bad rumours about the Hospital and there was a bit of trepidation have to admit, but I can say with any fear that it is a stunning Hospital with very very good staff and I was happy to do this review as they deserve to be applauded for their service. Kindest Regards Hendrik van Heerden

I worked in theatre. I had an iod in 2012. Since then they have not done the proper procedure with my IOD. I'm also trying to get workmans compensation sorted out.

On 22 July 2024 I took my husband to the Busamed Hillcrest ER & Casualty Dept with severe chest pains, pain in his arm down to his fingers and in his jaw. He had presented with chest pain on Fri and was seen by a Doctor at Hillcrest Surgical Unit (after hours) who advised him after numerous ECG and blood tests to see either a Cardiologist or Specialist Physician asap and gave my husband copies of all the tests he had done to be presented to whoever he saw on the Monday. Sunday evening his symptoms worsened and I took him to the Emergency dept at Busamed Hillcrest. WHAT A JOKE. All medical docs were presented to the ER Dr on call who after putting him on drips for pain, vitamin, indigestion and nebulished him and then sent him for chest Xrays as this Dr said his chest was tight. Of course his chest was tight as he was having a heart issue. This Dr sent him home saying he was either having an Asthma attack or an Anxiety attack despite my husband NEVER having either of these conditions. After he read all the docs given to him we asked him if he had spoken to Dr Vlok which he had NOT so we asked him to contact Dr Vlok. After phoning him, Dr Vlok told this Dr that my husband must see him first thing on Monday morning. Next day he saw Dr Vlok who on examining him immediately organised for him to be admitted to ICU and referred him to Dr Dyer. Thank goodness for these 2 wonderful Doctors as my husband had 2 blockages and required 2 stents. We had a meeting with the ER Dept head sister and Doctor as the ER is outsourced to NORTH STAR CONSULTING. At this meeting I openly told them that my husband could have had a heart attack and died after being sent home and all this ER Dept did was abuse our Medical Aid savings. We will NEVER go back to Busamed Hillcrest ER DEPT AGAIN. Sadly this type of bad treatment in the ER Dept is having a negative effect on Busamed Private Hospital as most people do not realize the ER Dept is OUTSOURCED.
