Engine Cover Denied Despite Full Service History – Alternator Pulley Failure I am disputing a claim with Motorite / Infiniti Insurance Limited regarding my 2010 Volvo XC60 (first generation, 300,000+ km). What happened: • The alternator clutch pulley seized suddenly, causing the auxi****y (V) belt to snap. • The broken belt became entangled in the cambelt system, causing the cambelt to snap. • This led to extensive engine damage, including hydraulic lifters, intake valves, exhaust valves, rocker arms, and cylinder head components. Important facts: • The vehicle has a full service history. • The cambelt was replaced in 2025. • The failure was sudden and unforeseen, not due to neglect or wear. Insurer’s response: • Motorite declined to apply the Engine benefit (R20,000 cover). • Instead, they app**** the Cambelt Failure benefit and argued that the alternator clutch pulley is not a listed component under Electrical Components. • This is contradictory, as the pulley was used as the initiating cause to limit the claim. Impact on me: • Substantial out-of-pocket repair costs. • Loss of use of the vehicle. • Emotional stress and financial strain. Next steps: I have formally submitted the matter to the National Financial Ombud Scheme for independent review. I hope that Motorite will reconsider its interpretation and apply the policy fairly. I am sharing this publicly in the hope that it encourages transparent and fair handling of warranty claims, especially for sudden mechanical failures on properly maintained vehicles. My 2010 Volvo XC60 suffered extensive engine damage after the alternator clutch pulley seized, yet Motorite is refusing to apply the Engine benefit (R20,000 cover) despite full service history and recent cambelt replacement — I have now submitted the matter to the National Financial Ombud Scheme.

I took out a warranty policy with Infiniti Insurance Limited when I purchased my car. I was shown with a document on what the warranty covers. After 2 months of having the car, the engine mounting and the gearbox mounting got broken. I then took the car to an approved service provider. A quotation was sent to Infiniti Insurance Limited and the claim was registered. The claim was rejected on the same day, stating that mounting are not covered. I then requested a document stating that they are not covered. A policy document was then emailed to me. I asked why am I only receiving a policy document after a claim is registered and why did I not receive it when I joined. My claim was rejected unfairly as I was not given proper documentation. If I knew that certain things are not covered, I would not have taken the policy or I would have opted for a policy that would covered most of the car issues.

This is a very frustrating experience. I reported poor workmanship from a repairer and my concerns were not taken into account. We advised the assessor that the 2nd door approved was a damaged door which had to also be fixed and isn't aligning. We asked that a OEM door be approved as this is an anomaly and not all models/cars will be in the same condition when using alternative or 2nd hand parts. The panel that needed to be replaced is out of alignment and there's now damage on the rear panel. The repairer itself can't even own up to the mess done and the lady in charge threw us out with the previous door that was removed. We were chased away like we begged for FREE repairs. All this because we raised our unhappiness regarding repairs done and not wanting to sign the declaration form that states that we are happy/satisfied with the work done... Centurion Auto Care Centre and their Manager Beverly don't respect customers.

3 weeks after starting the claim, filling in the claim form. I have sent all requested documents within hours of receiving the request for them. Not sure where the ball is being dropped but when I call to check if documents and emails are received I get told that they have not been received , even when i have sent it to my broker who says it has been received and get left feeling like I am inconveniencing the claims lady because I am following up. 3 weeks. Surely that is too long for a claim to be still be I'm the processing phase?
