Reposting this review after being advised by RMI to remove it until investigations were concluded by Motor industry Ombudsman. In February 2024 I had my engine light flashing and found a workshop JN Motor and Gearbox Repairs. They had the car checked out and sent me a diagnostic report confirming misfire on Cylinder 2 and 3. They then did a Compression test as the mechanic said he experienced the same issues with many other vehicles of the same model. We received a quote and agreed to proceed with the repairs as suggested by the workshop which was a complete engine overhaul. After a few weeks we received the car and after a day we heard loud ticking noises coming from the engine bay as well as brake fluid leaking. Took the car back and they said that they could not find anything wrong. After another day or two I noticed there was a lot of brake fluid leaking which I then took back to them. They "fixed" the leak and then the next day my ABS Sensor light was flashing. took the car back and they told me my abs module has packed up and needs to be replaced. They quoted me for the repairs which we paid in full. After more than a month we received the car back and then noticed the car was still leaking brake fluid and now also oil and the car had a rough idle. Took the car back then they said idle was normal and they fixed the leaks. I went home and inspected the vehicle myself to find the oil leak was still there and a thick black sludge on the exhaust that was causing fumes to come into the car. I also noticed a few other parts of the car were damaged. The shock for the bonnet (holding the bonnet up) was broken and the lcd screen on the dash was also damaged. Took the car back and expressed my disappointment with their workmanship, they promised to fix all the issues. The mechanic Junaid even told me that he stripped the bonnet shock from another clients car to replace mine. This took another few weeks as they found the car was still misfiring and they were struggling to pinpoint the cause. I eventually received my car back and then two or three days later, on a Friday the coolant warning light came on and when I checked there was no coolant in the car. Took the car back yet again which they then just topped up the coolant. I was told to monitor the oil and water every day to make sure everything is ok. The next day I notified them that the coolant was still disappearing and had the car sent back the next Monday. Before I took the car back to them the car had a very rough idle and with that the engine and EPC light came on. When I checked the car in, I showed Shannon the engine and EPC light that was on. When I eventually collected the car, I asked about the engine and EPC light to which the mechanic Junaid did not know of, and this was completely ignored. I decided to have another workshop inspect the car. I received a report from them confirming that there is low compression on cylinder two. Reported these findings to JN Motors and they ignored my messages and claimed that I have voided my guarantee as another workshop worked on the car even though that was not the case and only a diagnostic test was done. We have been struggling with issues on our car since February 2024 to date with the car being in a much worse state than what it was when it initially went in for repairs. It is basically just a dud and RMI cannot assist. I have escalated this to the ombudsman, who came back and found they were guilty and negligent, but they were not forced to reimburse me. I was told to take it further to the National Consumer Commission (NCC). Repairs were eventually carried out by another worked and they found that there were score marks on the bore due to broken piston ringlands. This after a full engine rebuild was done by JN motor and gearbox repairs. Absolutely appalling service. Your car will go in with one problem and come back with with same issue and 10 others.

Let me save you the headache — avoid this workshop at all costs. At first, I dealt with Shannon, and honestly, she’s the only reason I didn’t walk away sooner. She’s professional, polite, and actually knows how to handle customers. But the moment she passes you over to Junayd, that’s where the lies start. This guy will tell you anything to get you off his back. He’s taken me on test drives in other customers’ Polo 6R GTIs just to “prove” my car is fine — how is that even remotely acceptable? Every time I got my car back, within 48 hours I’d have a new issue. This went on for months. They claimed to use new, original parts — but non-OEM junk was fitted instead. They submitted insurance claims for parts that were never properly fixed. My car came back with more problems than it went in with. Here’s what was claimed under insurance, totalling R58,237: Water Pump – R4,187.81 Alternator – R8,320.00 Aircon Compressor – R10,499.99 Turbo – R3,650.00 Mechatronics/Transmission – R31,580.00 And after all that money? The water pump failed again (replaced properly by another workshop). The alternator is still faulty. The aircon doesn’t work. The turbo doesn’t boost at all — only the supercharger works. The gearbox engages horribly, 1st gear is delayed, 2nd gear still shudders. It gets worse — I later discovered that my gearbox isn’t even the same one I sent the car in with, once i called this out they said only my gearbox shell was replaced but everything else is the same - complete BS. No explanation. No accountability. Nothing but silence and excuses. The moment I mentioned raising a "Request for RMI Facilitation" I got blocked on all platforms, at this point I was +-2months away from being out of warranty with them. When the vehicle was no longer tied to J&N Motor and Gearbox Repairs I took it immediately to another RMI workshop who fixed my Waterpump J&N Motor and Gearbox Repairs is extremely good at fooling the insurance and claiming for more than what's needed. I was silly , blind and gave them the benefit of the doubt but I won't stop ensuring my voice is heard. This place is a disaster. They’ll smile, talk nicely, and then hand your car back in worse shape than before. They’ve completely destroyed my confidence in their work, and I wouldn’t let them near a wheelbarrow again, never mind my GTI. If you’re thinking of trusting them with your car — don’t. You’ll regret it. I sure do. They've successfully damaged both me and my vehicle, I will never blindly trust another workshop. Junayd, if you see this I hope you treat your future customers with transparency and honesty, Shannon I hope you fix your workshop as your father will be disappointed but like you said he said "There's always going to be some customers you can't keep happy" - I never wanted to be kept happy , I just wanted to truth and you guys fooled me big time , well done. Future customers - STAY AWAY :) FYI there are more reviews under their original HelloPeter profile - JN Motor & Gearbox Repairs , don;t be fooled like I was.
