Based on recent customer reviews, Jam Clothing faces significant criticism around its layby and refund policies. Multiple customers report being denied cash refunds on cancelled laybys or defective items, receiving store vouchers instead, and encountering a lack of transparency about terms at the point of sale. Damaged goods held in store care and unresolved double-charged card transactions further erode trust. Staff rudeness is a recurring complaint across several branches. However, select locations such as Woodstock, Balfour Park, and Sky City Mall earn praise for genuinely warm, helpful, and compassionate service.

Don't make a laybye at this store. The one at Sam Ntuli mall, will point blank refuse to give your money back when you wish to cancel a laybye. First, they'll tell you that you have to WAIT for the laybye to expire because they can't cancel it themselves. When you return, they'll REFUSE to refund you!! The worst part is that they don't inform you when making the laybye.

On 15 December, I went to the JAM Clothing store at Festival Mall to complete and collect my lay-by after paying the full remaining balance. There were delays at first because the staff brought the wrong items, but I want to be clear that I have no issue with the staff themselves. My concern is with how the situation was handled. When my items were eventually brought to the counter, I could smell a strong stench from the bag, and it was wet. On opening it, I discovered that all the clothes had dyed into each other, with some items badly water-damaged and others stained by dye transfer. The clothes were clearly damaged and unwearable. What I don’t understand is why I was only told that my goods were damaged after I had already paid the full lay-by amount, and why I was refused a refund despite the items being damaged while in JAM’s care. Instead, I was forced to select alternative items to the value of my original purchase. The items I originally chose were no longer available or were in different sizes. The store was extremely busy, and I felt rushed into making replacements, which was uncomfortable and disappointing. I am highly dissatisfied, not because of the staff, but because of the lack of transparency and refusal to refund damaged goods. I would appreciate JAM Clothing explaining why this situation was handled in this manner and why I was refused a refund.

Back in 2016 I worked as an assistant at Jam Clothing Horizon Shopping Centre and wow, the treatment I got was horrible, the staff treated me like garbage and they have stinky attitudes that it affected my mental health, just a garbage shop full of garbage staff who don't know how to treat people well, they all suck.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the team at JAM Store in Woodstock for the incredible compassion and support they have shown following the passing of my cousin, Sinazo Nikaba. During this painful time, the HR team — Nomthi and Daisy — have been truly outstanding. Their professionalism, empathy, and constant communication made the death claim process smooth and respectful, easing some of the stress our family faced. A very special thank you goes to Warrieda, the Store Manager, for her exceptional kindness and humanity. She went above and beyond her role — personally visiting our family, bringing flowers, and even attending the emotional viewing of Sinazo’s body. She was accompanied by one of her colleagues and her partner, which made their gesture even more touching and meaningful. Their presence and warmth brought great comfort to us during one of the hardest moments of our lives. It is rare to see such genuine care and compassion from a workplace. Thank you, JAM Store Woodstock, for standing by our family with love, respect, and empathy. Your actions will never be forgotten.

Insufficient refund policy problem! I bought a pair of denims on 30/10/25 within a special of 2 for R220. (Discounted from R135 each). Price on til slip was thus R110 per pair. On wanting to wear the jeans out, I found a defect on the sewing of the denim, a hole near the zip. I was told at the Balfour Park Jhb store where I bought it, that they will only be giving R85 back. The special offer amount on slip is R110, which is what I paid for the item. I contacted their head office and this was the email response: Please note that we do sell rejects of name branded clothing, our prices allow for this. With regards to the promotion of 2 for R220.00, that promotion is when you are taking 2 pairs, so when you are now only taking 1 pair, the pair that you keep the system automatically puts it back at the original sell price of R135.00 so, if you paid R220.00 and bring back 1 garment that will be R220.00 minus the sell price of R135.00 that leaves a balance of R85.00. Same applies if you bring back both pairs of Jeans, you will be refunded R220.00 and when you purchase 1 pair of jeans after the refund you will be charged R135.00. ----‐--------------- To me, this is unacceptable nonsense and a way to swindle customers out of their refunds because they know they sell defective clothing. No matter the mechanics of a special offer, the amount indicated on the purchase slip of what was paid for an item should be what is refunded!
