Metro Prepaid
Based on recent customer reviews, Metro Prepaid receives predominantly negative feedback driven by a disruptive mid-2025 payment system change that left many customers unable to purchase water tokens. Customers report unresponsive support channels, hidden service fees contradicting advertised zero-fee claims, and issues with duplicate or incorrect tokens. The transition to Property Wallet frustrated landlords and tenants alike, with lengthy wait times on WhatsApp and unanswered calls. However, a few positive reviews highlight helpful individual staff members like Maimuna and Calvin who provided polite, step-by-step guidance during onboarding.

A BIG thank you to Faseegah at Metro Prepaid for helping me everyday for more than a month with tokens and valuable advice when my meter was old and needed to be replaced. She had such great patience each time I contacted Metro Prepaid and was always kind and very helpful. Claudette was also such a kind and helpful lady. You are truly great assets to Metro Prepaid as it's very rare in these days to find such excellent customer service at a company. Thank you ladies. God bless you

In June 2025 i purchase prepaid water meters. According to Metro these meters carry a 1 year warranty. I had endless problems with the billing and moved over to another service provider. A water meter is leaking. I contacted Metro Prepaid meters , according to them the warranty falls away because they not my service provider. The metro has nothing to do with them billing my meters, The product is faulty which carries a 1 year warranty

Im not even willing to give a 1 star - should be zero. Everything about Metro Prepaid is difficult and unreasonable and I will be moving all my meters over to Citiq. Metro Have now changed their website and their way of buying. You cannot use your credit card. You cannot monitor your water consumption. You cannot even get the business to understand that they actually need to revert back to the old system. Never had so many problems ever. You are only allowed to have 3 water meters. I was even told because I run 82 properties that I had to have 82 email addresses. Even the sales lady cannot handle the changes - no answers and nothing ever gets fixed.

I bought 60 Prepaid waters meters for 3 separate properties. I had endless problems to have these meters registered. My tenants had endless problems to buy units. After a few months they not refunding me for all my meters. On one property they not refunding me for two meters. Another property for 5 meters. I want to transfer my meters to another company.

Great idea, but the worst for customer support, and transparency.. they advertise 0% fee, but they charge a ±8% service fee (+ VAT).. PLUS 3rd party fees.. and their per unit price is double what the municipality charges. A huge rip-off. I set them up as a beneficiary (as advised), paid for tokens, but did not receive tokens.. and after much effort, eventually a refund was paid. Then I tried the metro "app", only to be told that to longer works.. then I tried the Property Wallet app (also supposedly 0% 3rd-party fee as advertised on their brochure).. but a 1% (+ VAT) fee was charged. Customer service via WhatsApp sounds great, but they take hours to answer, and their answers are scripted, as if they don't read and/or understand your issue.. so every interaction with them is frustrating, time consuming and ineffective. Bottom line, do not trust this company at all, and will arrange for meters to be removed. The months of struggling and unhappy tenants is not worth it.

They suck. They changed their purchasing channels, but did not notify their clients. In fact, they have not even updated their website to reflect the new payment options. The help desk should be renamed the "useless desk" because they do not answer the phones. They also do not reply to emails. They do respond to WhatsApp messages, but you will have to wait a few hours for the response. More frustrating, the responses you receive are copy and pasted from a pre-written script. I.e. the responses are not tailored to your query. As part of the new purchase system, you can no longer buy tokens from their app. Instead you have to use a new website named Property wallet (they call it an "app" but there is NO app). Property wallet charges a 1% service fee on top of the 7.95% service fee Metro is already charging you. This means that 8.95% of your money goes to paying Metro and this other company, NOT towards buying water. You can buy it from a shop or buy from your bank (if your bank has this option) but then you will pay a 3.6% service charge on top of Metro's 7.95% service charge. Your last option is to buy water via an EFT. This is the only method for which you won't pay an additional service charge. HOWEVER, this option relies on Metro checking your proof of purchase and then emailing you the token number. Five days later, we're still waiting. Metro prepaid is a nice thing for landlords, but sucks for tenants.
