I was charged a R5 'usb fee' which I thought was exorbitant and something I have never encountered before. How can it cost R5 to print something off a usb? Additionally, the assistant did not have change, so she simply did not give me change - told me I could get my change when I next came in! The sheer utter cheek of it. Imagine if I asked for a service, then announced I couldn't pay, and told them I would settle up when I next came in..... Thing is, I won't be going back. There are other cheaper, more pleasant places to print documents or send parcels.
I took in a seven-year-old Epson data projector to Partserve, unfortunately, as it is the only place to get after-sales service for Epson projectors. After a few days, I was told that it would cost around R7 000 to replace the motherboard on the projector, and only then would they be able to tell me whether they could fix it or not. So.. PartServe was telling me I needed to pay R7000 BEFORE they could even tell me if the projector was worth repairing? I rejected the quote, obviously, and then was told I needed to pay around R400 in order to get the projector back. This added insult to injury. I got the distinct impression that they did not want to repair the projector, they simply wanted to compel me to buy a new one. So they give me a quote that I would find impossible to accept, and then charge me for not accepting it. They win, I lose - both ways. When I told the service manager that I thought their business practices were problematic, I was answered with a take-it-or-leave-it shrug. I will not buy an Epson projector again. And I will make darned sure, before I ever buy another appliance, that PartServe is not their after-sales agent.
I really wish I could say nice things about Brown's Jewellery Store, because their shops are really nice. But the quality of their jewellery is very poor. I was given a gold chain as a present, but it keeps breaking because the workmanship is so poor, and Brown's charges a lot of money to repair. This last time I took the chain in with one break, they quoted me a very high price to repair, I told them I would take it elsewhere to be repaired and so I collected it again, and when I collected it I found it was now broken in three places. I have notified Brown's head office, as well as contacted the branch. Despite promises, no-one has got back to me. So... do NOT buy jewellery from Brown's. Their workmanship is poor and their service expensive.
I took a German guest to Curry Ous in Pinetown, Durban, for a genuine Bunny Chow, and it was a great success. I had the mutton bunny, he had the butter chicken. Tasty, juicy, not too hot, cooked to perfection, huge portion. This should be on the bucket list for every overseas visitor. Lovely friendly prompt service, and a washbasin in the shop - because you have to eat with bunny with your hands for the full experience, and you have to wash up afterwards! Definite win.
