The public should be aware that when you buy a bed be sure that you know what you want and how long you want it to last for. 6 years ago I purchased a Simmons bed which comes with a long term warrantee and a short term guarantee. The salesman advised us that if any thing should go wrong with the bed it would be dealt with and when buying a comfortable bed which happened to be the top of the range with 50mm memory foam on top of the bed springs etc. this is the service one would expect. Obviously being an engineer, I was suspicious of this guarantee, as I did think that at the time the foam couldn't possibly last but was assured by the salesman that the Simmons warrantee would take care of all eventualities. Previously, I was using a Henwood bed which I still have, which is a pocket spring bed, was reasonably priced and I must say after 20 years this bed is still in good condition however, unfortunately I can't just change the mattress as this one is a queen size and the Simmons is a king size, which is more suitable for me and my wife as far as size goes. I should also mention that when first married, we bought a Sealy posturepedic bed which after 15 years had the springs fail and there was no questions asked, Sealy replaced the bed. My advice to you if you are going to buy a bed, do not buy the most comfortable bed if you don't intend on replacing it every 5 years but rather go for one of the brands that give good back up service and do not find excuses to try and uphold what should have been a good name and turned out to be the biggest disappointment I have had in a long time. In closing, Beds 2 Go reacted very quickly in reporting this to their supplier, however they are not entirely blameless as the salesman should make people aware of the pitfalls if you don't intend on replacing your bed every 5 years.
For years, Durban Parks Department has always shone above all other departments in their functioning and repairs. Four weeks ago, they cut down a large amount of timber from a tree on the turning circle on Leighorne Place, it can be seen from the photographs that since removing the timber and storing it against the wall and have not bothered to remove or collect it. All of the foliage ie. leaves have now washed off due to the recent rainfall and are now sitting in the drainage system which is not conducive to keeping the storm drain system clear of unnecessary debris. Storm drains are designed to dissipate and clear water from the rainfall off the roads and not to wash the foliage from the trees that have been cut and left. There is a hole where the bitumen road was removed to get to a water leak in front of number 19, it can now be seen that the driveway is cracking. this repair was done at least 2 months ago and is only due to our constant filling this with sand that vehicles are able to ride on it. Despite contacting the department numerous times to come back and fill the hole before the situation worsens, they have not made any attempt to do so. Is this what we pay Rates and Taxes on?? This is certainly not in line with any of the standards that were in place with the council previously. Furthermore, it would seem any area that is not visited by tourists is neglected completely and proof of this is Gordon Road, where a section was resurfaced probably about 9 years ago. In preparing the resurfacing the top surface was scoured to allow the new tar to bond, obviously to cut costs, the retarring was stopped halfway between Florida Road and Gordon Road leaving only the scouring, creating multiple potholes especially where speed bumps have been installed for the schools. It's time we as Durban Rate payers start to reduce our rates and not accept this level of apathy and substandard service that we are paying for.
On Xmas eve my wife and myself went to our normal doctor at the above medical center as we had chest colds with no temperature or other systems. As a side issue while we were waiting in the reception an elderly gentleman walked out using a walker, when he could not see his son he asked the person (a woman) to please look at his file and phone his son, she without any compassion told him to go back to the dentist and ask them to phone. The doctor examined us and prescribed a course of three tablets, and told us to go for Covid test, which we did. whilst there we asked Ampath assistant would they SMS us the results as does Lancet Laboratories, to which we were told they advise the doctor and we can go onto their website, here the plot thickens. We were telephoned on the same evening at 22:05 from an obscure hair dressing Studio's number, which we did not answer initially but when it rang the second time we answered and it was the doctor who we had visited earlier that day. I have been going to this doctor for at least 30 years after he took over from a friend of mine who went on to be a urologist. When asking the doctor what we should do, he advised us to isolate for 10 Days, when asking if we had problems could we call on this number, he was not very comital other than to say, this was his wife's hair studio. From that moment on we might have been dead, we were not contacted to advise on all the meds one should take, we had to find out from a friend and daughter who had both had Covid 19. On Xmas eve when my wife was bad, I tried to call the hair studio on two occasions to request a script for oxygen, one clearly heard the receiver being lifted both times and the the mouth piece covered over. So here we were with the doctor we had been using for as far back as I can remember, ignoring us as if it would be better if we died than to disturb the doctor during his time. What happened the Hippocratic oath. Using friends and other resources we did get medication and Oxygen which without, our recovery period would have been twice as long and difficult. when discussing the way we were treaded to see if this was normal, we were told by every single person that their doctors or their partners kept in touch and monitored the situation. Clearly this medical center caters for pensioners from the old age homes and flats around North Beach, once their doors close for business, everyone of their patients are on their own, you can call the number and it will ring until you put the phone down. So in light of the above, if you have one of your parents in an old age home in the area and you care for them, please take head of the above. I will be going back to the clinic, but, only to uplift mine and my wife's files.
