Faulty Glasses, Misleading Sales, and Poor Service at Torga Optical
I purchased rimless reading glasses from Torga Optical Clearwater Mall and from the very beginning they were not right. The lenses were unpolished on the sides and I did notice that the glasses were bouncing on my desk, and when I complained, staff bent the nose pads, which only caused the glasses to slip down my nose and said the glasses come unpolished. A pair, from someone I know, came polished, so I knew this was not true. At the Rosebank branch, I pointed out that the lenses were bent and uneven, with one higher than the other, and that the glasses were bouncing on the desk. Staff bent the arms unevenly and then told me to go back to Clearwater Mall, claiming they didn’t have the tools to fix it. At Clearwater Mall, when I tried to explain, the lady spoke over me saying she “knows everything,” instead of listening to what I had to say. I was given conflicting explanations — sometimes they said they would fix the glasses, other times they spoke about making a new pair. When I collected them, the glasses had scratches, cracks at the drill holes, and one arm was weak and loose. My doctor, a specialist, confirmed the faults — skew lenses, poor drilling, drill flares, scratches, and cracks, and even examined them under the microscope — and even gave me a letter to hand to Torga Optical Clearwater stating this. Despite this, I was told to give them another chance and promised a new pair. What I received was handed over with dirty, yellowed nose pads, clearly not new. This entire process has been unprofessional and dismissive. Staff were rude, grumbling about work, and insisting there was “nothing wrong.” I have wasted significant time, travel and petrol costs on repeated trips, from January through to 02 May 2026, as well as time away from my work and studies — all for reading glasses that should have been correct from the start. To make matters worse, when I first purchased my glasses, I was never told about the promotion offering a second pair free. I was deciding between two pairs — the frameless reading glasses and a small oval full‑frame pair. Even the senior manager was involved in advising me which looked right for my face, yet no one mentioned the free pair until my mother noticed it and asked about it. Only then did staff admit I could have chosen the frameless as reading glasses and the other as sunglasses. This lack of disclosure is unacceptable. I have photos showing the scratches, cracks, bent lenses as well as the letter from my doctor. These can be provided to Head Office if required. I do not want another pair. I want my money back. Quality inspections should have caught these faults, and customers should not be misled or made to run back and forth for defective products. Torga Optical needs to take accountability for poor workmanship, misleading sales practices, and the time and costs they have forced me to bear.

Asus South Africa - Cracked Stylus, No Support, and Terrible After-Sales Service
I purchased an Asus Zenbook Duo 2025 in June 2025 from Incredible Connection. The stylus was cracked - clearly a manufacturing defect - and I reported it to Incredible Connection as soon as I could to avoid any suggestion that I had damaged it. I contacted Pinnacle Micro directly (Asus's local service partner) to avoid booking in my laptop, which I rely on for academic work. Despite the stylus being visibly damaged and my laptop being fully functional, I was told the stylus could not be replaced unless the laptop was booked in. During my visits to Pinnacle Micro, I was handed replacement styluses - but they were also defective. It felt like an attempt to avoid ordering a new stylus or escalating the issue properly, since they insisted the laptop had to be booked in first. This approach wasted my time and failed to resolve the problem. I logged a formal complaint with Asus South Africa and received a request ID. However, the call centre experience has been appalling. One consultant refused to repeat his name and abruptly ended the call. Another, despite lacking full information and refusing to escalate my query or provide an email address, claimed "everything has been done to assist me". This was in response to my request to speak to a senior manager or the head of the complaints department - which he said could not be done. I was told the only way to escalate is through the online email submission form, and that even my initial submission would take days before I receive a response. I had my laptop with me during each visit to Pinnacle Micro but made it clear I could not hand it in due to academic commitments. As a result, the laptop was not inspected - however, it is brand new and fully functional, and the fault lies solely with the stylus. I've already taken time off from work and studies to try and resolve this, and Asus has offered no meaningful solution. I made three trips to Pinnacle Micro - two successful, and one where I got stuck in traffic due to an accident and had to turn back. Each round trip is approximately 96.6km, making this a costly and time-consuming process, especially given that no resolution has been offered. Despite the multiple visits to Pinnacle Micro - including two successful trips and one aborted due to a traffic accident - Asus insists the stylus cannot be replaced without booking in the laptop. Pinnacle Micro has now stated that they will book in the laptop to create the Asus ticket/RMA required to proceed with the stylus order. They've said the unit will be returned once the initial required test is completed. However, this still means handing in a fully functional laptop - which I've repeatedly explained I cannot do due to academic commitments. The stylus is the only defective component, and this process continues to place unnecessary burden on me as a customer. I cannot make yet another trip just to place an order for a stylus - especially when the fault is clear and the laptop is brand new. It's a ridiculous requirement that shows no regard for the customer's time or circumstances. I've now escalated the matter to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud. Warning to other consumers: Asus's after-sales support is shockingly poor. If you value responsive service and accountability, I strongly recommend choosing another brand. Photo's of the cracked stylus and faulty one (half of the charging port is visible when opened to charge the stylus) provided by Pinnacle Micro is available and can be provided upon request.

Exceptional service
I wanted to take a moment to commend Yaseen and Katlego at Builders Warehouse Southgate for their exceptional service. The team went above and beyond to ensure a seamless experience in obtaining and delivering our Eco watertanks after the mix up caused by the online team, demonstrating outstanding professionalism and dedication. From start to finish, their attention to detail and customer care were truly commendable. Thank you for setting the bar so high! Sipho and Alicia were equally helpful while we waited for Yaseen and Katlego's assistance on our query. Katelgo continued to provide exceptional service and guidance each time we went in and is truly an amazing person to interact with.

********* Black Friday Marketing
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with an experience I had at the Makro store. I visited the store specifically to purchase the Sunlight Professional 5L Liquid, which was advertised as a part of your Black Friday promotions. Upon arrival, I encountered several issues. The staff I approached for assistance were unhelpful and provided me with inconsistent information. Despite my efforts to get clear answers, I was repeatedly given the runaround, which was both frustrating and disappointing. As a loyal customer who values the quality and service associated with Makro, this experience was far below my expectations. This issue must be addressed with their staff to ensure better service for all customers in the future.

Pick 'n Pay Hyde Park Well Done
The experiences had at Pick 'n Pay Hyde Park Mall is by far the best service we've ever had at Pick 'n Pay. The store manager Sammy and his staff are always so professional, helpful and work with cleanliness. They always prepared to help you no matter what the situation. Other Pick 'n Pay stores have a lot to learn from this store. I travel from the south of Johannesburg to Hyde Park just because of the service, professionalism, cleanliness and friendliness received. When one goes into the Trade Route Mall and Rosebank Mall Pick 'n Pay, staff behave like they doing the customer very huge favours and try to compete with customers about who is right and wrong, they have no cleanliness whatsoever, because they always scratching themselves, their heads and ears when working with food products, especially at the tills, if you complain, they do it it even more because you should not tell them what to do and the store managers don'ttake you seriously; it's always a problem for them to assist customers and they like to show that they are in charge and customers don't mean anything because as a customer, you need them not the other way around.

Terrible service
I was at your Rosebank branch on the 12th Dec and asked if I can swop the soap I bought from another branch because it was the wrong variety that was given to me. I asked the teller if this can be done, she checked with another staff member and the manager and went ahead. I reiterated that I want to swop and not return. She rang up the items at the marked up price which I queried. The senior staff member, Andile, stepped in and said that it cannot be done, his store cannot loose out by doing us a favour as he cannot give us a discount. His tone was condescending and rude. I told him he is not doing us a favour, we paid for the items and only wanted to swop which we clearly advised up front and first asked if it can be done. He had a lot to say about Pick n Pay’s return policies differing from the offices to the branches because the staff in the offices do not know whats going on in the branches. He was arrogant enough to point to his badge and say that’s my name you can take it up. Is this how your senior frontline staff are trained to deal with the customers. Especially when I asked first if they can help and was not demanding or being difficult. All they had to say was they could not assist, instead they were trying to accept the stock at the original lower price but wanted to charge me the mark up, what kind of business practise is that? Pnp your standards definitely need to be re-addressed and those staff sent for proper training. Please refer to my next compliment on the experience I had at your Hyde Park branch.
