Our Supper Club club of 12 attendees had an awesome Christmas dinner experience at Monte de Dios on Saturday 22 Nov 2025. The food was of top quality and the venue was charming.
On Saturday morning I was stranded by Durban Parking Solutions who were supposed to collect my car at 07h00 from King Shaka Airport, and no response from Shaun until 13h07, long after I had already landed at Lanseria. Fortunately I noticed Samuel from Durban Parking Solutions helping another client and asked if he would "rescue" me. This was at 07h15 and my flight was boarding at 07h30. No problem, within 5 minutes Samuel had me sorted and on my arrival back the next day at 19h10, he was waiting for me with a clean car. I will NOT be using Durban Parking Solutions ever again, but certainly Durban Parking Services from now on !
Kudos to TSHEPO MAHLANGU and OUTSURANCE for providing me and my wife a better deal on the insurance of our two respective vehicles. Tshepo was very friendly, engaging, and patient; an asset to any company he works for !
I just want to thank Mershin Naidoo of Flexi Club, Pinetown office, for sorting out a booking I was trying to do on-line, but wouldn't work because my cash reserve was depleted. I received confirmation of payment and the reservation after contacting him within 5 minutes!
Kudos to Samantha Subramoney for being so helpful and responsive in sorting out a booking mid-week May 2025 at Millstream Farm, Dullstroom. The on-line FlexiClub system was not very user-friendly when I tried to make the reservation myself !
Kudos to Paul Herbst and team (Cheryl, Patrick, and Amos) for identifying the damage caused by a lightning storm, 8-10 Nov 2024, to my sub-DB board and two major distribution cables, and repairing/replacing all damaged components. It took some time to identify all the damaged components, but eventually all the problems were sorted out on 9 Dec 2024 and a COC issued, thanks to the diligence of Patrick and Amos. I would recommend Power Trip Electrical to anybody who wants assistance for any electrical problem at a reasonable price. They only require payment once the job is complete.
Ryan Taylor de*****ed me of R13000, deposit for work quoted, but never delivered. He was called out on 12 Nov'24 after I had suffered lightning damage on a DB board. He replaced the earth leakage breaker, the surge protector, and a 10A circuit breaker with a used 50A circuit breaker (this is unsafe practice!). I paid him R5200 for this work. He came back the next day because the DB board was still faulty. Included in his quote (R15800) for additional repair work was the replacement of a 3 kVA inverter, which was supposedly damaged by the lightning. I subsequently discovered it was still in good working order! He has refused to deliver on his quote since 13 Nov, the day I paid the deposit. It is unbelievable that a DEPARTMENT OF LABOUR registered electrician is capable of such deceit and unsafe ethics. He will be charged with *****/THEFT at the Umhlali SAPS offices.
I reported a ***** electrician (Leander van der Merwe of EDDA ELECTRICAL) to the Electrical Contractors Association (ECA), also known as the Electrical Contracting Board (ECB), in February, March and July 2024 with no response ! The email address I used: support@ecb.org.za and info@ecb.org.za; you would assume the ECB is the organisation to contact when an electrical contractor is *********. This is what I reported to no avail (summarised): 1. Leander of EDDA ELECTRICAL re-built and re-wired my DB board at home on 27 Dec 2023, and included in his cost was the provision of a CoC for the re-built DB board. After the work was completed, he promised me the CoC was pending soonest, but insisted I settle the complete account which included a payment of R2 100 for the CoC. The cost of the re-wiring/re-build of the DB board was R10 500. I foolishly paid him in full via EFT. 2. Subsequent to this work, I discovered the DB board was not functioning correctly and the CoC was not forthcoming. I informed him of this via WhatsApp on 29 Dec and reminded him that the CoC was outstanding. He promised he would come and see me, but informed me the person responsible to provide me with a CoC was away on holiday on a farm with bad cellphone signal. I followed up on 3 Jan 2024 and he promised to follow-up with said anonymous individual. 3. I called and sent WhatsApp messages 8 – 9 Jan, and he finally responded on 10 Jan repeating the excuse that the “Master Electrician” was not available. I followed up on 10 - 15 Jan and his new excuse was he had a neck injury, but that he would book me in for a call-out. On 17 Jan, I followed up again and this time his “Master Electrician” was in a car accident, but that he would sort it out. 6. On 7 Feb he sent me Spartan Electrical’s business card and on my inquiry as to the reason for sending me this business card he responded very rudely on WhatsApp voice mail, telling me to ***k off. The business card was that of the “Master Electrician”. 8. I then sent Spartan Electrical’s invoice via WhatsApp to Leander indicating that he needed to re-imburse me for Ryan’s work (R3500) as well as for the CoC he did not supply (R2100). No response from Leander. Leander is a ***** and an embarrassment to the ECA/ECB. Worse still, he is a danger to the public as he left my DB board in an unsafe condition when he by-passed the earth leakage breaker ! Would you please revert regarding this matter and what ECA/ECB can do to prevent ************ electricians like Leander from de*****ing residents (and compromising their safety).
I would like to give a shout-out to Jabulani Ngcobo of Outsurance for being so professional and honest in his dealings with me regarding my claim for a laptop which was damaged beyond repair. The claim was settled in full within 5 working days !
Outsurance is most receptive to assisting clients with optimizing their premiums. In my case, CHRISTOPHER ROBERTSON of Outsurance reviewed my policy and was able to reduce my OUT-and-ABOUT premium by about 15%.
